From a hockey standpoint, San Jose wins easily. From a locker room standpoint, San Jose now has Evander Kane and the Hoffman/Karlsson saga to deal with. Nobody wins!

Edit: And now he's gone. Turn that plane around, chief!

San Jose got the better deal in terms of talent, but the Sharks have to deal with Hoffman's significant other, which was enough to drive a perennial Norris favorite out of town (or just about). Does that mean Brent Burns is available? I'm asking for a friend.

It amazes me that Ottawa was able to get any form of NHL player in return. Maybe San Jose wanted to shed some salary.

Someone notify the two GMs that the BOG is going to review the deal for a potential revision.

Another winner in this deal is the Avalanche. This is just getting them closer and closer to top odds for Jack Hughes

Matt Duchene can watch helplessly as the team he so badly wanted to leave becomes stacked. I wouldn't be surprised if Ottawa gives Colorado pick #4 instead of risking next years lottery winner.

It makes a lot of sense, especially if they’re going to trade EK. This team is going to suck, and quite honestly Mark Stone and Thomas Chabot are the only two most likely to stick around for the long haul.

Trade Karlsson for a high pick this year + a package of prospects and then let Colorado take #4, follow this up by a blow up of the roster.

Also, @Mods, can we figure out who was the person voting the trade in favour of Ottawa and IP ban them from the site?

Yup, Dorion definitely showed Bergevin who's boss with this trade.

In fairness, Ottawa was never going to win the Hoffman trade.

Probably a Sens fan. If you had cancer, any cost to get rid of it would be a win, right? That's essentially how many Sens fans view this player.

Who wins? Erik Karlsson. Only has to see Hoffman twice a year. Nice trade to a Western Conference team from Karlsson's view. I don't think EK will be traded this summer, but it would be nice for him if it was done.

Why the heck didn't Dorion just trade Hoffman to Florida for the picks? It even saves Melnyk money, and we know how much he loves that.

I think we’re seeing just how out of his depth Dorion is as a GM. I think Dorion probably turned down better trades before the Hoffman/Karlsson saga went public and got the best deal he could when his back was against the wall. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Wilson engineered the Florida side of this without any word of it to Dorion. Dorion got taken to school today. Let’s hope he learned some lessons because this Sens fan is worried he’s the GM for as long as Melnyk is the owner.

He's suppose to make sure the other GM is not trading the player back in his division ! Taken to school for sure

He didn't want to trade Hoffman within the division. So much for that.

Classic example of a fleecing.

Why Pierre Dorion didn't trade Mike Hoffman for maximum value before the story between Melinda Karlsson/Monika Caryk went public, I will never understand.

He could have just traded him straight to Florida and get the picks that San Jose would end up receiving an hour later.

And Ottawa would have been better off.

Not getting ahead of something before disaster strikes is an example of gross incompetence.

San Jose wins.
