Hmmm...Eli might be on to something

Description
Saw Eli post in a tread about a Cole/Green pairing each at 4 Mil. Then my gears got going...Would it be possible to do the aforementioned AND keep JC? As you can see I am slightly over the Cap...However...with creative call ups and potential injuries during the season you could do it...maybe just maybe JC would even take a little less to be in that D Core. On top of that the returns of draft picks helps pad for the future. Whatcha think?

No. I think Grub can get a first round by himself so trading Burakovsky for a 4th round is bad. For the other trade I think it's better to keep Orpik around he's old but got experience and he's a good mentor for young Def.

Could probably save some money on DSP, and by moving Oshie in the Orpik trade

Grub isn't getting a first...2nd yes...1st absolutely not. Watch. I promise. And Bura is so overrated by guys on here. Don't forget we are talking the 11th or 12th OA. Potentially a NHL ready player. wink. And Orpik is a great leader...however good luck keeping the team semi intact AND keeping his 5.5M on the books.

Possibly on DSP...but after his playoffs he's gonna get some good offers. And IMO...1.75m is the max he's really worth. Trading Oshie would send a bad message to the team and fans. OH WAIT...we just pushed out the coach that won us our first cup...Guess bad messages might be the theme of this off-season.

There's atleast 3 team who's on Grub, NYI, CAR and BUF. Grub is the only goalie with #1 potential available right now so the price is going to be high. If your just gonna get a second round for him than just let him get sign by a team. Cost of RFA is a second round if the contract is between 2m and 4m. If its between 4m and 6m its a 1st round and a 3rd round. Grub is probably going to get something around 4m just look at what Scott Darling and Antti Raanta got.

Edit the compensation changed my bad
$1,339,576 to $2,029,659 Third-round pick
$2,029,660 to $4,059,322 Second-round pick
$4,059,323 to $6,088,980 First and third-round pick

Bad NYI trade. Bura and Grubauer could get their own 1st round picks.

Cole isn't that good. Kempny is much better and much cheaper.

Green is probably getting close to $6M. After Carlson he's the best dman which means people who miss out on Carlson wiil bid for him.

Hmmm...did not know the RFA compensation scale. Learn something new everyday. smile Thanks man. Still don't think he's WORTH a first...but rules are rules. :P Will create rosters accordingly going forward.

You are killing me tonight C/R! Really Kempny is better than Cole???(deep breath). Yes Kempny played good for us...but dont get too carried away. You could be right on Green getting more than 4 per...It wouldn't shock me. Was just going off Eli's post. And as in I said in the other thread...STOP over valuing Bura. He's worth a 2nd at most and that is me being generous...wink. Love the discussions...keep it up guys.

Great team! Kempny had some amazing assists and might well get paid 3M next year. He has 18 career points in the regular season, and five in the playoffs, and blocked like 40 shots.

Cole has 17 points in 62 playoff games, plus he blocked fifty shots on the way to each of his Cup wins, and landed almost as many hits. Kempny does have one more playoff goal (2), but Cole has 11 more points. In the first round with the Jackets, I thought he looked pretty good.

Like Green he's had some up and down years, but they're both usually decent second pair guys. I'd trade Orpik's wisdom for Cole and Green's relative youth and skill. I would not sign either to more than three years, and I'd be fine keeping Orpik and Bowey if they declined.

Agree you can get more for Burakovsky and Grubauer by separating them and finding perfect landing spots for each. Good team.

If you trade Connolly instead of Bowey, and send Johansen to the A, you're under the Cap, but with Chiasson or Barber skating a regular shift. what's out there in free agency, or in trade for GruBura?

That NYI trade is brutal. Burky and Grub are each worth a first individually.
I'd rather pay Kempny $2mm less than Cole and get better production
Could let Beags walk, sign Boyd and save $1mm there.
