Panarin, Weber, and more

Description
Panarin trade is dependant on him signing a similar deal to Voracek ($8.5x6-8 years).

If Montreal is going for youth getting Weber for $5m a year is a strong upgrade on D for a few years while prospects ELC's counteract his contract in decline.

Boedker and Bozak give you good 3rd line depth scoring for 2 years and then they're gone.

Simmonds is still a question but it seems (understandably) like the organisation doesn't want to shop him.

We just need a 7th D on the roster while Morin is on IR until Feb.

One of few Weber trades that I have seen that might happen. Trouble with the Panarin trade, it allows a] another teams the Flyers negotiate with a Columbus's player. Then especially if there int extension agreement Panarin and Columbus are stuck with one another. And how does Paranin really benefit, he might feel he can get more in a year. Like the trade though, but I doubt if it can be pulled off.

If you want Panarin you don't trade one of the best passers in the league who he would be playing with!

I don't understand the Panarin for Voracek ++ trade. You are talking about comparable point totals and similar money and term after the projected extension before the two 1st round picks.

By the way, Panarin started a career-high 35% of his shifts in the defensive zone this year (read highly-protected usage). The Flyers' most protected player was Dale Weise who still started nearly 45% of his shifts in the defensive zone.

I'd love to add someone like Panarin, but I think we are over-valuing CBJ's asset.

I would absolutely love that Weber trade. He's not the Weber from 2012, but he is still a force and would be a much needed crease clearer, defensive presence, leader, and has an absolute howitzer from the blue line which is a nice thing to have.

Panarin is a goal scorer, Voracek is a passer and two years older. I consider them fairly similar assets but goals win games. Therefore, in my opinion at least, Panarin fits better the Flyers new core better and gets 30 goals a year, while it's not like no one else could pass him the puck.

Also the Flyers would be a bit up against the cap paying Giroux, Panarin, Voracek, Provorov, Konecny, Patrick, etc, down the road.

I want nothing to do with those 8 years left on Weber's contract, I don't care how much they would retain.

This. I'd much rather trade Simmonds and keep Voracek.

Fair enough, it's not like I'm trying to suggest Voracek isn't a damn good player, just he's a passer, Panarin is more of a scorer and two years younger.

As for Weber his contract is still a beast but I think it's plausible he's a good player for most of the rest of the deal. I'm sure the last year or two might be bad but it's not unheard of for a skilled D to play well approaching 40.
