Domi at C?

Description
MTL made it to the eastern conference finals with Desharnais-Plekanec-Eller as their centers. Is Domi-Drouin-Danult not an upgrade?

Domi is one of the best playmakers in the league (he had a higher assists/60 minutes than Malkin and Gaudreau last year). I think he can do what Desharnais did for Pacioretty. This is the scenario if Montreal can't get Tavares or O'Reilly.

For those of you who are interested here is a comparison to the 2014 Playoff roster (2018 comparison to 2014):
Max Pacioretty < Max Pacioretty
Max Domi = David Desharnais
Tomas Vanek < Tomas Vanek
Arturri Lehkonen = Rene Bourque
Jonathan Drouin > Tomas Plekanec
Brendan Gallagher > Brendan Gallagher
Paul Byron = Brian Gionta
Phillip Danault = Lars Eller
Nikita Scherbak = Alex Galchenyuk
Charles Hudon = Daniel Briere
Jacob De la Rose = Michael Bournival
Andrew Shaw = Dale Weise
Nicolas Deslauriers = Brandon Prust
Michael McCarron = Travis Moen

Shae Weber = PK Subban
Jake Gardiner = Andrei Markov
Victor Mete = Francis Boullion
Jeff Petry > Alexei Emelin
Karl Alzner = Josh Gorges
Noah Juulsen > Nathan Beaulieu
Jordie Benn = Mike Weaver
Douglas Murray = David Schlemko

Carey Price < Carey Price
Antti Niemi > Petr Budaj
Charlie Lindgren > Dustin Tokarski

In summary although the 1st line isn't as strong the 2nd line is improved which balances the top 6. Apart from that the defence is improved and MTL still has $10M in cap space and a 3rd overall pick to make additional improvements. Goaltending depth is better, but Price needs to bounce back for the habs. The team isn't that far from the Eastern Conference finals team in 2013-14, however the rest of the East is probably stronger than back then as well.

Sorry I meant to reply earlier but this looks good but only thing I would do I is Trade Pacioretty for Muzzin straight up then draft Zadina to fill in for Pacioretty. Then you don't have to trade with leafs.

Yep, if you compare to the 2014 team pretty much the only thing these guys are missing is a top 4 LD who can get 40 pts (Markov). That's what the habs need to be back in playoffs, I dont know if it's in the habs best interest to trade pacioretty (especially if he wants to resign) Montreal seems to have trouble finding guys who actually want to play there.

True, so this would only work if they drafted Jesperi Kotkaniemi or Quinn Hughes.

You should make another one like this after the draft.

Not necessarily, I would be happy with any of Zadina, Hughes, Wahlstrom, Bouchard, Tkatchuk, or Kotkaniemi.. if they need to trade a roster player in the future to make room for them so be it, but these guys don't have to be rushed. Another year in junior would do them all good. (In hindsight the habs should've been more patient with Glachenyuk he could've worked on his game at C in junior for 1-2 years.

True, I agree. But can Zadina not start this season?

Zadina, Tkatchuk, and Bouchard are all probably capable of playing in the NHL next year in my opinion. Zadina probably the most likely. Tkatchuk is probably better off developing another year though to work on his offensive game vs a bottom 6 NHL role.

Yep I agree.
Now let's hope that Marc Bergvain does the right thing!
