No way this happens. Bruins are not in the running for Carlson. He is a great defenseman, but he is a right handed shot which we have plenty of right now. We need a LHD. Paul Stastny is great too but he will get more than 6 mil and Bs need that money for a top 6 sniper and will spend less than $6 mil on a 3C. Riley Nash will also at least be $2.5 mil/year. The Sabres trade is not happening. They are looking at shipping out O'Reilly so why would they trade away a top 6 player making $7 mil/ year and then trade for a bottom 6 player making $6 mil/year. Doesn't make sense. The Mcquaid trade doesn't work with Edmonton's need for a puck moving D but I could see Mcquaid getting traded somewhere.

Based on what? Is there a team in the NHL capable of give Stastny 6M+/year? Sure? Is that a team Stastny would want to sign with? Highly unlikely. He wants to win a Cup, not max out on value in his next contract. And FWIW, Matt Cane's model has him only breaching the 6M threshold if he signs for 5 years or more. You think there is a competitive NHL team that wants to sign him to MORE than 6M/year until he's 37+? I understand wanting to crap all over this roster build, but the confidence with which you casually threw that in there lol - sorry I had to respond.

If he wants to win a cup and take less than sure he won't get $6 mil. But players also want security and signing higher dollar and longer term in possibly their last peak years contract. All the players below are $6 mil and higher going until 36-37 years old.

David Backes - $6 mil over 5 years. Signed at 32. Had worse stats than Stastny
Ryan Kesler - $6.875 mil over 6 years. Signed at 31. Worse stats than Stastny but was a great defensive player.
Jason Spezza - $7.5 mil over 4 years. Signed at 32. Better stats than Stastny and was a better player.

Lol and precisely none of these players lived up to their contracts. So you would think NHL GMs would learn their lesson
