Dorion Hedges

Created by: DrumMan44
Team: 2018-19 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 21, 2018
Published: Jun. 21, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dorion Hedges his bets and flips the 2018 4th overall to get his first rounder for 2019 back in return.

2018 Draft Out:

Smith, Karlsson, Anderson, 4th overall pick in 2018

2018 IN:
Jakob Chychrun, Marcus Kruger, Brett Pesce, Scott Darling, Marian Hossa's contract,
5th overall pick in 2018, 2nd and 3rd from Montreal.

Trade Duchene in-season or at the deadline to grab another pick in 2019.

I'm not sure how cheap Melnyk is. It would behoove the club to sign some free agents to spit shine and trade as deadline deals, but I doubt ownership would go for that.
Trades
1.
OTT
  1. 2018 2nd round pick (MTL)
  2. 2018 3rd round pick (MTL)
MTL
  1. Smith, Zack
Additional Details:
Montreal Gets Centre Depth, Ottawa picks up some more draft picks
2.
OTT
  1. Chychrun, Jakob
  2. Krüger, Marcus
  3. 2018 1st round pick (ARI)
ARI
  1. Karlsson, Erik
Additional Details:
Ottawa grabs a Top 5 Pick in the 2018 draft to offset the fourth overall they send back to Colorado. If Montreal ends up taking Kotkaniemi at third overall, that leaves Zadina or Tkachuk available at #5, which are great pieces for Ottawa to add.

Ottawa takes back some salary from Arizona in this case as well, as they do not spend to the cap.
3.
OTT
  1. Hossa, Marián
  2. 2018 4th round pick (NSH)
CHI
  1. 2018 6th round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Unfortunately the combination of a rising cap floor and shipping out salary means Ottawa is going to have to take on contracts to hit the cap floor. Luckily for them, Hossa's 5.275 hit is only $1 million in actual salary.
4.
OTT
  1. 2019 1st round pick (OTT)
COL
  1. 2018 1st round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Given the dire straits of the club and the fact that Dorion grabs the fifth overall pick in 2018 from Arizona, he sends back the fourth overall to hedge his bets of winning the lottery next year.
5.
CAR
  1. Anderson, Craig
Additional Details:
Carolina atones for their mistakes at Goaltending by swapping out Darling with a bonafide starter in Anderson. They pay dearly for the price, but this one move could potentially get them to the playoffs plus give them some cap relief to make more moves.
6.
OTT
  1. Ejdsell, Victor
  2. Rutta, Jan
  3. 2019 1st round pick (CHI)
CHI
  1. Duchene, Matt
Additional Details:
DEADLINE DEAL
You can swap out Chicago for any playoff bubble team looking to make a run. In any case, I believe there would need to be a prospect and roster player going the other way, if only to balance cap hits and contracts.

Carolina isn't giving Pesce up for an old Goalie. They would be wiser to go with the much younger Darling than give up such a good asset as Pesce.

I'm certain that Karlsson will get more than that from Arizona. The asking price is young players, prospects and a 1st. You've got the 1st and one young player. If Krueger is a salary dump, then Ryan is going the other way. But they also would need to include at least 1 strong prospect as well.

Why would the sens give up the 4OA if they have the chance to land a player like Tkachuk or Zadina?

Statistically, It's unlikely that they get the 1OA. And from what I am hearing, the players at 2-3-4-etc aren't on the same level as this year's draft!

I really hope they keep their pick!

Smith isn't worth anything close to a early 2nd and 3rd. I don't even know if I would pay a 3rd. Maybe Bergevin would like his 'attitude'

Arizona isn't getting Karlsson for 3 reasons 1.) don't wanna give up young players 2.) not giving up picks 3.) only want to get to the cap floor to lock up Strome, Chychrun, Keller, and their other young players

You're right about statistically they are unlikely to get 1OA next year. There's a 49.1% chance if the odds stay the same as they were in this year's draft. However, the top 10 in 2019 as of right now, looks to be better than this year's. But a lot can change in 1 year. As a fan of the Sens, I would prefer they take the pick this year and keep Karlsson. If they trade Karlsson, I'd still much rather they look to get a 1st from another team in 2019. If they properly manage their assets (that's a big IF, since they have proven otherwise time and time again) and secure some players that can play well next season, then they can at least be a playoff bubble team. Because Colorado would have the 2019 pick, I sincerely hope the 1 bad year and 1 good year trend continues.

No man!

This year's draft has a lot more talent in the top 10! One of the most talented in years! but it drops off!

Next years draft is not as talented, but a lot deeper.

Anyways, in this scenario, you trade for the 5 OA so it's a lot easier to stomach it. But if the sens give the 4 OA and don't pick until the 22nd pick, I'm going to be cheese.

Interesting ideas... But

1) Chychrun + 5th OA is good start but I'd want another piece than Kruger who is not needed and overpaid. Or maybe a 2nd + 3rd round pick

2) I'm not doing that Duchene deal. No garantee how high the Chicago 1st will be in 2019, can't risk trading Duchene for a mid-to-low 1st round pick.

3) Yeah Smith is not worth a 2nd + 3rd pick that high, not anymore after the season he just had. Maybe the 3rd would do.

4) And yeah, Carolina doesn't give up Pesce in that scenario. I would do that in a heartbeat though. I would even swap Anderson for Darling who is younger and could rebound nicely.

5) I don't know if you tried to make a line-up but MacArthur will stay on the LTIR.

6) If you trade Karlsson and Duchene for futures, then yeah you have to swap the 1st round pick with Colorado.
