honestly thats a pretty good trade if they get backy to sign long term

When I first looked at this, I thought it was crazy...but when I think about the trades essentially being Backstrom for O'Reilly and the #3 pick, it looks a lot better. Would be worried about the defensive depth, though...

Ok, Then Montreal is only a #2 center and #1 left defenseman away from contending and have no more trade chips with value... Montreal doesn't have the assets to make a run with the current team, rebuild.

We could put together the best pitch ever and offer him the best contract out of anyone, doesn't mean he will sign here. So we could trade away our 3rd overall and still have our plans crushed by a free agent having a choice to go elsewhere.

i dont believe canes would do that trade and montreal would be stupid to do that....backstrom needs to play alongside a solid goal scorer and your trading away the canadiens only one in the deal....
