If nyi give 11m to Tavares MTL need to give 13m because of the taxe! They dont sign him.

I know you need the player but 7.5 is to much for statsny isn't it.

Unfortunately that or 7 is the number in the UFA market. You have to overpay. Although Vermette and Plekanec are getting overpaid here. Vermette would be lucky to make the team, maybe offer him a PTO then sign him for a cheap under 1 mil deal. Also Benn should be in the lineup, if not then I'd say trade him.

I'm not sure on the taxes thing. With no more SALT tax deduction NYC and Cali city and state taxes add up. There is a sea of people leaving NYC. The property prices are dropping like a rock. The only break was the drop in Federal tax rate but that's only 2.6% You consider the NY state taxes in 8.9% and NYC tax is 3.8% and you are looking at almost 50% tax rate, on top of that, you have a huge sales tax, property tax.
But in general it's only like a 3% difference with out even including a FICA tax. I mean really it could be really close
