TBL...what would you give for an extra $5.8M in cap?

Created by: exo2769
Team: 2018-19 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 25, 2018
Published: Jun. 25, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm not 100% sure how to take the draft. Dmen take time to develop and Chicago already has good defensive prospects. It kinda seems like a multi-year re-tooling. I don't foresee trading away any core guys, but it sounds to me like Bowman's looking to start that replacement process sooner rather than later. So how do we get that faster??? Well we need to take on short term contract and get picks.

Trades
CHI
  1. Callahan, Ryan
  2. 2019 1st round pick (TBL)
  3. 2020 1st round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
This trade is based off the Lehtera STL to PHI Schen Trade. With an extra $5.8M...TBL is 110% cup contenders if not favorites. So expect JUST like the PHI/STL trade the #27 trade to CHI. Then Just like STL/PHI have a 2nd pick conditional pick...if they win make it a 1st...if they don't win it all...then it's a 2nd.

Isnt the 2019 1st round pick for Tampa already on hold in the trade with New York? If Tampa won the cup last year or this coming year, New York would get their 2019 1st round pick... I dont think they can put another condition on the same pick. I dont see a need to move 2 first round picks to dump CAP though.

You might be right, Let me double check that! Thanks!

***EDIT*** you're 100% correct thanks. I'll need to revise in a bit. Maybe just make it the next (2) years?

Yes, If Tampa wins cup then 2019 2nd turns into 2019 1st for New York.

The one problem that I see with this trade is that Chicago isnt giving up a player of Schenn's calibre.
Blues made that trade thinking they were adding a first line center to their lineup.
This would be adding a 8th or 9th defenceman who may have to be put on waivers as they already have 8 defencemen
(Hedman, McDonagh, Stralman, Girardi, Coburn, Sergachev, Dotchin and Koekkoek).
Trade Debrincat or Schmaltz it may be closer, but then it makes less sense for the Hawks.
Tampa definitely will benefit from shedding that salary.

You’re so wrong. Forsling is an outstanding defenseman and that’s why he was asked about by multiple teams last year at the deadline. Debrincat? Schmaltz? Huge pieces of their retool. You’re whack. Forsling is better than Girardi, Dotchin, and Koekkoek. McDonagh is good, but he sucks on the TBL. Watch Forsling play.

Well, I see your point, but there are a couple of things that make that different. A.) guys like Schmaltz/Debrincat are ELCs that Frankly...at the time of the trade...already put up Schenn like numbers. It's easy to go back now and say Schenn's obviously a 70 point guy...except that he'd never done that before or even broke the 60 mark. Which leads to B.) At the time of the Schenn extention...people thought he was overpaid. Especially the Philly news outlets. So STL was taking a chance on a guy that may not have panned out. (that's clearly worked in STL's favor for Schenn...not so much on the conditional pick). I don't think that's a fair comparison. Which is why I went with the D prospect...he's on an ELC and can be extended reasonably.

The d prospect isn't needed at all though. Schenn had seasons of 47, 59 and 55 points. Not a lot of risk there. Especially when he was mostly playing out of position.
When he played center his last two years in Philadelphia he was nearly a point a game player.

Yeah, but again...a player producing as an ELC (Sub $1M contract) at the same rate as a someone with a $5.125M (at the time of trade)....can't really compare those two. 5-6 years Age delta...Schmaltz/Debrincat can't possibly be in the equation. Yes, indeed Schenn followed through, but that's not the point. I'd love to be able to predict the future too! All my draft picks would be solid gold. That's why the cost controlled prospect would be better. TB may not EVEN STILL be able to keep all their Dmen. RMcD/Girardi are good as gone. Serg will jump in for sure, but besides Serg and Foote...High end yes, but low quantity of D prospects incase Foote doesn't pan out.

Forsling played half the games was -20 on giveaway/takeaways and had a -6.8% relative corsi. If he was so outstanding his metrics would be much better.

Well he's a prospect and doesn't get protected like Serg does. When he was healthy he played pretty darn good next to Jan Rutta. 19+ min a game for a rookie is pretty good. Serg got 15min...played 70% in the offensive zone. HOWEVER, this isn't a Serg/Forsling comparison. Serg will win that. I'm not blind to that fact. The idea is more...how much will $5.8M help. and I think it'll help TB a ton. Keeping JT Miller and Kuch become more of a reality vs fantasy.

But either way, Thanks for the thoughts!!!
