This is a good deal. Sheahan is a guy who can swap between third and fourth line center, gets deployed primarily in defensive situations, and scores around 30 points. On a one year deal, there is zero risk to the Penguins. What more do you want?

More term. He did a very good job holding down the bottom six, so I'd have kept him for at least two years.

was predicting about 2yrs/4.2 coming into the offseason so while not perfect its pretty fair. Out of all the deals announced so far this is the first one Rutherford didn't overpay.

I like the contract and the terms, cause after next season Pens priority will be re-sign Guentzel, and we'll probably need a great cap room to do it. So, if the terms were higher, maybe Pens would be in cap trouble to re-sign Guentzel.

Maybe. But I think that would be a bad move, unless the return are worth to do it. Why? Cause now Brassard will be in Pens training camp, so this can make the difference to make him fit better in our scheme. He's very good and we just pay 3M of his salary. Besides, he's the only guy who can replace Sid or Geno, if one of them get some injury (hopefully not). I don't think Sheahan could do it. It'd be a huge offensive drop production with him playing as a top 6 center.

Imo he could get a solid return esp if he sign extension. He’s a good 1 or 2 center and teams are gojng crazy for that right now. Might be able to trade him and Kessel for panarin or patches ( obviously there would be more coming to pens side but center piece) and get him signed long term.

Those could be options indeed. But, as I said, if Pens do that, we have to do for the right price. I really think Brassard will be a very good season, if he stays in Pitt. As for Kessel...well, trade him for Panarin and some more assets could work for both sides, if the situation with Phil and Sullivan don't get better. But I'd like to see Kessel stays, if he and Sullivan let it go, of course.

PS: To that trade for Panarin work out, we should have 100% of guarantee that he would re-sign. Otherwise, no way to make such trade.
