A bit expensive for what he's done so far but if he's able to play this contract like he played in the playoffs its going to be worth the money.

If he keeps his play in the playoffs, this will be worth it, if not, who knows.

I honestly don't see how this is expensive at all. The sample size might be small but he did a phenomenal job stabilizing the Caps defense down the stretch. Tom Reirden sees a lot of potential in Kemper and he *loves* Reirden. I actually think the Caps found something in Kempny and even if you have to drop him back to the 3rd pairing, with the Cap ceiling continuing to climb, having a stable defender locked up for four years at 2.5M isn't going to be burdensome, even if he regresses. It does have the potential to be a fantastic contract though if he continues to be a Top4 D for the Caps.

Having Orlov, Nisky, Carlson, and Kempny all locked up for 3+ years should give the Caps a strong defense for years to come.

Hes was (in my opinion) the second best D in those playoff for the caps and this has the potentiel to be a great cheap contract but theirs also a risk. For exemple schlemko got almost the same contract has a really good 5th defensemen and now this he has struggle that contract dosnt look good at all. Considering the caps moving Orpik and resigning Carlson to what a think is a absolute bargain the caps might have one of the most underrated D of the league

Even if Kempny doesn’t play like he did once he came over, he’s still a #5 defenseman. That’s not a bad rate for him given the term. Only issue is whether it blocks the paths of Lucas Johansen and Alex Alexeyev, but that’ll be figured out when the time comes. It’s basically the same deal that Brayden McNabb has, for comparisons sake

Its funny how often I see comments like this. Caps fans needing to always flex their muscles because they beat the penguins once is laughable.
I rooted for the Caps and Jets most of the playoffs but seeing how the Caps fans bash the Pens at every chance they get is just sad. Act like you've been there before.

Not sure how anyone says this is a bad contract. He was good in Chicago, Quennville just didnt like him. He was good overseas. He's stable in Washington. Nothing amongst his past performances and past stats indicates he was playing above his abilities. He just wasn't given a shot. 4 years at a minuscule 2.5 million in a cap era where potential is rewarded with a huge contract is nothing. Cap continues to increase by about 5% every year. Looking at this contract in those terms, your looking at 2.375 next season, 2.257 and 2.143 million in comparison to equivalency of this current cap. Thats peanuts, even for a 4-5 dman. You got guys like Forbort, Pysyk, Rutta, Benning, K.Miller, Gunnarsson, Nutivaara, Hunwick, Beaulieu, Schlemko, Zadorov, Hutton, Lovejoy among others making almost the same or more. Id be pretty confident to say he's in this range of players. Theres a ton of D that aren't better than Kempny making more $.

Identifying a couple cap fans here as all caps fans is ignorant. Your just as bad as the select few that state their opinions boldly.

Id even go as far as to say this is steal of a deal for the caps. Reason I say this, he just got a shot and showed he can play top pairing minutes in at the most important time of the year. He helped lead a team to the Cup. He could have tested the UFA market with a thin market on defence. If you have ever read anything on Kempny, you would know this guy respects the people that respect him. I really think he took a discount to stay for the simple fact that they gave him a shot and put confidence in him. He could have got a 3 mill or more contract as a UFA. The market for D is super thin. Pittsburgh is going to give Jack Johnson, a career -106 guy, 47% corsi a 3.5 x 5 year deal. Jack played on some good teams and still had bad numbers despite this. He is constantly on the ice for more goals scored and more shots taken. With career numbers like that, you can't say its his teammates all the time cuz it isn't. If a guy like that is getting a 17.5 mill dollar deal at 31 going on 32 during next season, Kempny is a definite steal.

Who's flexing? Are u kidding? You heard the bashing and chirping when caps lost year after year? Even after this year Pens fans have been crying that caps 'cheated' or played dirty. I was stating the facts, pens fans are bashing on and on all the fkn time, go check Twitter or Facebook. If anyone really thinks this is a bad contract, they are retards. Pens fans are bitter, not because they lost this once, but because they can't call Caps chokers anymore.
And that, if something is LAUGHABLE.

Top ten best quotes in sports “act like you’ve been there before” lol. We actually haven’t been there before so we’re going to enjoy it. Thanks for the sage words of advice, though.

The Pens can go to hell and I’d expect every Caps fan to say the same and every Oens fan to say the same about us. It’s sports.
