Kostin if he didn’t get injured would have been a top 10 pick in the NHL. Not worth Pacioretty.

Big if there, but for this scenario, he’s the only piece I had left valuable enough to get Patches. This isn’t an “I want this to happen” post either.

I would trade any prospect not named Thomas for Paches if he agrees to resign. If you can sign him something along 6 years 6-7 mil. He is a consistent 30 goal scorer.

would a deal like Berglund + Kyrou + top draft pick (conditional 1st or two 2nds) be something you'd consider?

Yes for sure. I would say if the prospect is Kyrou/Thompson than the conditional would be a 2nd and if the prospect is Barbashev/Stevens/Blais than the conditional can be a 1st.
So my preference would be Berglund Thompson and a conditional 2nd for Pacioretty. I think Berglund holds some value for MTL since they need center so he would not just be a cap dump and Thompson is a potential top 6 center or RW.

I don't think it works that way lol Berglund can't be a cap dump for some teams and not for others. I'm including Berglund to precisely get the prospect I'd want (other than Thomas of course) which is Kyrou. The option I'm kinda of leaving you in my deal is if you'd prefer to add a conditional 1st (top 20 protected) or two 2nd rd picks. I don't have that much interest in Thompson, sure he has upside, but I'm not willing to move Patches for him to see if it comes to fruition.

Well he only makes 3.75 mil which is not that bad of a contract for a 3c that can score 20 goals. He is not a cap "dump" but would help the blues shed come cap by moving him and making room for ELC's to play.

Also idc about the picks either way but why would you not take a 3c a high end prospect (Thompson) and a pick for a guy who probably will not resign with while your team is rebuilding?

MTL doesn't need Berglund, as in another LW (who can play Center for sure) he's just the roster player to help out the cap situation to facilitate the trade.
Thompson in 35 games took a grand total 10 face offs, and only won 1 of them. I highly doubt he's NHL center material, and everywhere I'm looking has him down as a RW first. Kyrou might not be a center, but he's definitely the better of the 2 prospects and is the more offensive minded of the two. So Thompson no thanks, Kyrou yes please.

and as much as I'd like for the Habs to rebuild, they just aren't. and Pacthes can still fetch a fairly good return even at the trade deadline. look at what NYR got for Rick Nash.

A late 1st, Lindgren (low-mid level prospect) Spooner an average 3rd liner and Belesky a real cap dump for Rick Nash.... If that is what you want then the Blues can offer a 1st Sobotka Berglund and Poganski.

If MTL can't trade Patches until the trade deadline then sure. but you lose roughly 60 games worth of him where he could help you actually get to the playoffs and also a whole 9 months less time to try and resign him.

Agreed so the return of a Berglund Thompson and a conditional 1st is enough.

You can’t sign him for that when he wants like 10 Million. You saw that with LA. So I’d rather not.
