Fair point. However goalies are a bit voodoo and it's hard to figure out which ones will pan out. After one season, Darling is an over-paid bust. But that could change. Nedelijovic could be good, but there's uncertainty there (He's only posted a .903 % at both the ECHL and NHL level). It might not be the worst thing for them to add another promising goaltender to the mix to try and see if one sticks.

Two seasons of someone like Faulk would be great. And it would give the team arguably the best right side in the league (assuming Letang bounces back). I'd also be interested in Skinnner, though he would only be around for one year before needing a new deal and RHD is a bigger need.

Is it really though? JJ isn't the best defenseman out there, but there is 0 reason for Pittsburgh to acquire another offensive oriented RHD. Faulk would have to play 3rd pairing minutes. He's not getting time on the PP over Letang and Schultz.

Funny enough, Johnson's best assets are his skating and passing ability. He's always been more offensively oriented and lacking in defensive positioning and awareness. He will also be much older, worse at every aspect of the game and only 1.5 million dollars less expensive.

Faulk would give them three pairings with offensively skilled player and one that can play more conservatively and cover for their pinches. Also allows for more evenly balanced minutes (JR wants Letang to play less). Sure, he won't get PP1 time but so what? His overall point total would be lower but the team would still benefit from having him on the team. Faulk is basically an upgrade of Jack Johnson as a player for two years of this cup window and without the risks of signing a declining 31-year old to a long-term deal.

Are you suggesting that it would be a bad thing to have threat to score on each defensive pairing?

They already tried to deal for Jarry and JR passed on it... he Loves Jarry, not saying he wont trade him tho

I can't remember a time when the pens traded their 1st round pick at the beginning of the season. I know you want to say last year, but that's false, that was that years 1st round pick, they still had the first round pick for the year after.
They do that for late season trade reasons I believe. It's better to have a first to work with in making those trade deals at the end of the year for what is usually a decent talent pool at trade deadline.
So I highly doubt you will ever get the pens 1st round pick until them.

I'm suggesting those asset's would be better spent making an upgrade elsewhere. Specifically a good LD to play 2nd or 3rd pairing. Oleksiak already prefers to play on the right, and will likely be the RD on the third pairing.

Of course it would be nice to have a guy like Faulk on the 3rd pairing, but giving the minutes you can offer him, is it worth offering a 1st and Jarry? No, not when you can fill that spot in FA for nothing.

What good FA is out there? There just isn't a market. You end up overpaying for a lesser, aged player. Oleksiak can play either side. If you can find another young, left handed puck-moving defenseman, that would work too. However, there aren't too many available. Faulk fits in terms of age and availability.

And where else does the team need an upgrade? Right wing and center are arguably the best depth in the league. Goalie is secure. Left wing perhaps, but there are not too many options out there. A right handed defensemen is the most glaring hole,
