I thought Mason could have brought a better sweetener than Armia. Habs probably wanted a Finn in camp and maybe for few years so their first rounder has a fellow Finn to talk too,
Better sweetener than Armia, seems crazy with how good he's doing these days.
I can't see how anyone can defend any other response other than fair deal for both? This literally helps both teams out without screwing anyone. This trade is impossible to lose for both teams.
Sorry for reviving old treads.
On the day of the trade it was indeed a fair deal but as soon as Stastny signed with Vegas it was a 200% win for Montreal. Clearing cap space for no reason, yikes and especially on how Armia exploded here!

Not sure how the Jets didnt get exactly what they wanted? The goal was to get cap space. They got it. What they did with it is another topic.
You can't say they lost because they didnt sign Stastny. A) thats looking like bullet missed anyway and B) its not like that cap didnt get used elsewhere. Just not on a flashy UFA player.
Both won this deal. Thats a good thing. Thats what most deals should be.

How do you justify the Jets winning this trade after they didn't put the cap to good use and have nothing to show for it right now?

That cap did go to good use. You assume Stastny was the only reasoning for it. Which as I said, probably would have ended up being a bad idea with the way hes playing in Vegas now.
The goal for WPG was to clear cap space. They acheived that. What they do with that cap space is besides the point. Im not saying WPG won this trade and Habs didn't. Im saying they both got what they wanted out of the trade. Its a win win.
