I mean... Bergevin won a trade. And I consider that spectacular.

Way to take advantage of cap space. Armia is a good return for a one year cap dump

Purely a cap dump by the Winnipeg jets which was much needed for resigning UFA Paul Stastny. In return the Habs gets a decent 3rd line forward and (in my opinion again) i really do think the habs are going to flip Mason to either Buffalo or Carolina.

Yep but if habs want to flip Mason they will have to retain cap. Otherwise Jets just would've traded him for picks I guess.

I thought Mason could have brought a better sweetener than Armia. Habs probably wanted a Finn in camp and maybe for few years so their first rounder has a fellow Finn to talk too,

Montreal will love this. Winnipeg opens up cap space but payed way to much to open it up.

I’m guessing this means MTL isn’t getting Paul Stastny either lol Mason will be flipped for sure (Maybe NYI?) Armia looks like a nice addition, Habs needed more right shooting forwards.

This is pretty good for MTL, especially if Mason can be flipped for assets at 50% retention. There's no way he stays in MTL for much longer, since he'd just screw over McNiven and Lindgren. Jets clear space, although I don't think re-signing Stastny is a given, considering they still need to sign Hellebuyck and Trouba plus extend Laine. Slight win for MTL.

Probably to sign Stastny but Mason is a decent goalie (not as good as some Flyers fans think). Great move by Montreal though.

Mason has to be flipped before 5pm today. Really wanted Perreault or Petan. This is better than sitting on cap space, but not a best case scenario. Im happy Bergevin is being assertive instead of waiting and striking out on UFA's like Tavares & Stastny.

Considering the outcome of this trade allows WPG to sign Stastny, gets Mason off their hands, & MTL just bought out Mase - I'm saying WPG wins the trade.

Bergerien finally does a "decent move". However reports are that this trade was made to allow the Jets to sign Statsny which the habs had hopes of signing....so Bergerien might have pulled another Bergefailtears of joy

Anyways, Statsny or not, the habs are not making the playoffs next year.

I think Armia has more to offer if given a bigger role. Worst case, he's a 3rd liner, but some extra ice time, more offensive zone starts, and/or chemistry with Drouin, Lehkonen, or Pacioretty could put him into the top 6.

He already seems to be defensively responsible. Not sure of his brainfart percentage, if he's prone to make blunders, but he's more or less positive in possession despite leaning towards defensive zone starts. Will have to see him in action and cross our fingers.

Another bargain bin type of deal, but at least it made use of some cap space.

I can't see how anyone can defend any other response other than fair deal for both? This literally helps both teams out without screwing anyone. This trade is impossible to lose for both teams.

Habs must know they lost out on Stastny so this was essentially getting free assets for Bourque who will be a career AHL'er. Habs won't be able to use the money on a big free agent so might as well use it on cap dump to get picks and prospects back. WPG gets their cap space, everyones happy.

A AHLer fetches this, win by Montreal. Mason can be flipped for other assets and Armia is a good 3rd line tweener who isn't a left winger. The 4th and 7th are nice to have even if he(the guy who gets with the pick) isn't an NHLer.

Bergevin hunting is a scary thought ...
"Be vewwy vewwy qwuiet. I'm hunting Centers."
*BANG*
"Umm, Marc. You just shot a traffic cone."
"I know that. There's no Center in sight, so I shot that instead."
*BANG*
"Marc! You just shot me in the leg!"
"Sorry. Centers are hard to find, but I have to shoot something."
*BANG*
"MARC WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?"
"There's still no Centers, so I'm shooting myself in the foot!"
"Why don't you put the gun down and just stop pulling the trigger until you see a Center?!?"
"Ooo. Good idea!"
*BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
"Marc! WTF?! You just shot a bubblegum dispenser, a park ranger, and a refrigerator!"
"Yes, but the park ranger was in between the bubblegum dispenser and the refrigerator. That makes him a Center. Success!"

Mason was already bought out by Montreal so he won’t be flipped for anything other than him taking up Montreal’s cap space now

I said this before the news. I know, I'm not surprised about him being bought out, he wasn't going to be used regardless.

I mean if they were never in the hunt for him he would of just flat out told him so...... but yeah probably never a real option, which means the next best thing is to use that cap space for cap dumps just like they did today. happy
