I think for most teams this is a bad deal but the yotes have the cap space and he brings leadership, grit, and knows how to win some cups. Not a bad role model for their young guns

this would not have been a bad deal for ANY team. give Chayka where credit is due - in most situations, you'd have to sign a guy like Hjalmarsson to a 3-5 year contract. he's 31 and gets 2 high paid years and won't be dead capspace in the back years of his contract. this is as good as it gets.
I agree with Barathrum on this. They are higher paid but not out to lunch numbers and only at 2 years saving the dead space in future seasons. Id presume if Hjalmarsson were to test UFA he could probably get 4-4.5 for 5 years. He may have handicapped himself here for later years.
