Huge Montreal fan here.

Riley Nash has one good season with 41 points. I wouldn't sign him for 4M$ a year; in fact, I wouldn't sign him at all.

I think Lehkonen is a second line RW, he's got sweet hands. Danault is not a 2nd line C, but in the current climate, that's where he has to play. Plek/DLR/McCarron fighting for 3rd/4th line C.

Nicolas Deslauriers has a grit and a huge upside for the money. If he eats minutes on the PK and can get 30 points, he's worth a lot more than what we pay him.

My take on this year's team is to take on a few more bad contracts with decent prospects (like Armia) and draft picks for low return, and concentrate on the 2020-21 season.

I agree 100%. I just think Bergefail will try and sign the big UFAs (Statsny, etc.) fail to lure anyone one of them, panic, and sign someone I'd consider a depth player (Nash) for a large sum of money to try and stay "competitive" next season. Which is a mistake in my opinion.

the players that you've signed are close to being right except for Plekanec & Danaud, I see Danaud at roughly 4.5M/4-5yrs & Plekanec at 3.75M-4.00M/1-2yrs... it doesnt really make a huge difference, there's not a whole lot besides Price yhat have a moronic contract on that eam

The defense if awefully wrong though, it,s very hard to near impossible to have a DMan play on it's off side in the NHL, so Petry wont and will never be playing with Weber at 5/5 (on the powerplay maybe)

Mete / Weber
Alzner / Petry
Shlemko / Juulsen
Benn (Reilly)

I read somewhere that the Danault contract would be anywhere between $3mil-$3.75mil on a long term deal, I just chose the cheaper side but sure I can realistically see him getting a bit more. Plecky I hope not at the $$$ your suggesting, especially with 2 years.

As for the defense, Mete shouldn't be thrown to the wolves like last season, he needs to fine tune his game a bit more (shoot the puck more, not be afraid of getting hit) and always being on the top line would hurt him in the long run imo. I'd agree that he'd be the best option on LD for Weber though. and since guys like Alzner, Benn, Shlemko have no place on the top line, I'd say give Petry a try. There are guys that play their off side in the league (Martinez in LA, Brodie in CGY) I think Petry is skilled enough to at least earn chance with Weber.
