Stars are getting more and more money. ELCs are becoming very important but Doughty is a tad overpayed and LA has 21 million tied up in Kopitar and him in 2019-20.

Yup! The reason Pittsburgh is so good is because Crosby and Kessel are great contracts. I must admit the Pens window is closing but I can't wait to see what the leafs will be like next year.

IDK Toronto is giving all of their core very big contracts despite choking in the 1st round every year. Not sure what the though process is there

Huh. His playstyle might allow him to stay on top for longer than some other dmen, but I still gotta imagine that last 2 years or so of this deal are gonna be rough. Still better than most 8/7-year deals given to players at this age range.

Fantastic player, but that’s a contract that will bite the kings in a few years. Carter under $6M is the only reason this team remains competitive in the salary cap era in my opinion

The only contract that’s been given out is Tavares bro ? The thought process is bringing in a top 15 player in the world and not giving up a thing to sign him

If you ask me to choose who to play and who to healthy scratch between...

A) One of the Top 10 players in the league at their position.
and
B) Cap space.

...I start the player every time.

Is it? My point is: why do teams covet cap space? So they can sign and retain talent. So why would you then worry about hanging onto cap space when talent becomes available?

Because the best team is the one in which you get the highest level of talent for $79.5M or less. Therefore every player you sign is judged by value per cost. If he had cost $20M/year, you’d be agreeing with me. Because it’d be VERY clear that what he’s costing you in salary space is way more than the talent he provides. At $11M I’m simply saying that may still be the case. Maybe not in year one or two of the contract by much, but very soon thereafter that gap will spread. And when it does, this will be a contract that hurts the team more than helps them. Over the life of the contract, I believe it will hurt more than help

How is this not a good signing? Lol. The Kings have the best defenseman in the world signed for 8 more years for less than 12M per year.....

You aren't very objective at all I've learned. Interesting human being.

Doughty might be deserving of his contract and Kopitar too. But the Kings are just an ordinary team even having two superior players making 25% of the cap next year. Looks like another one an done playoff round, even if they make the playoffs.
