Don't worry, it'll be okay

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
CBJ didn't overpay for anyone today. Added good depth. Prospects look good and will make an impact this year. CBJ could still look to a trade to make the team better. Panarin won't be dealt unless CBJ get a maximum return for him. Plenty of money to resign Z, maybe Bob, maybe Bread (if they can convince him to stay)

I think CBJ made a very bad error when they offered Jenner his RFA tag.
Why get roped up into that contract. Better off letting him walk and using that money on Z, Bread and bob.

Nash is a very nice pick up on a good cap hit. Can't complain about that.

Jenner is still young and brings good things to the ice even when he isn't scoring. It's a no-brainer.

Jenner is too slow to play a top 9 role in the NHL. You are playing a lot of money for a 4th line player. Having 4th line players throughout the roaster is one of the things that has been holding this team back. You can see the change happening on the roaster with them trying to get faster and more skilled away from slow bruising and physical. The fact that Dubinski is on the 4th line and they would love to trade him out is a good example of that.
This team is basically sitting with 3 players who really aren't fast enough. Jenner, Dubinski and Foligno. While I think Foligno is still skilled enough for a bottom 6 role, the other two really aren't. You can no longer role lines of Dubinski and Jenner in your Middle 6. It just doesn't work.

Dubi certainly feels like dead weight. Boone isn't slow, he isn't old, he brings more than just a heavy check. There is skill coming up through the system, but if Boone were a UFA he'd be getting $4+ from someone. CBJ are not letting him walk

how can you say he's not slow?
You put him in a foot race and it's over, he loses. He doesn't have break away speed. That is critical for a top line winger. Panarin looks like the flash compared to him. Milano is speed Gonzales. That heavy check is all he has. He has no high end skill. He's not going to deek around anyone. He's not going to out skate anyone. He's a 4th line player that for some reason you are attached to, because you are use to his name. But what he isn't is a fast hockey player that belongs on the top 3 lines of any team. Keeping a 4th liner around for that kind of money is a waste. Why get caught up carrying that. Let it walk or trade him and use that money on a faster more skilled player or keeping the players they already have like Bob, Zack and Panarin.

Never said he’s a top line guy. Saying he isn’t slow doesn’t mean I was saying he could out skate McDavid, just that he isn’t slow. And if you’re serious about giving me crap for wanting to keep him around, just look at the money that was thrown to other 4th liners like Reaves, Komarov, even Calvert got overpaid. $3m for Boone Jenner is still a bargain. Get a clue

yes and they let calvert walk that's the point. But even Calvert was a faster player than Jenner. As for Reaves, we all know why Reaves got a contract. It has nothing to do with hockey skills. Jenner is no Reaves.

Speed isn’t the only important attribute in Hockey. Jenner brings more than Calvert, is younger than Calvert, scores more, etc. He’s had 30+ points every year of his career. Much more effective than other guys in that salary range. Not sure how it’s so difficult to understand. Extending Boone won’t impede them from Bob, Z, Bread, etc.

Jenner's game is aging out of hockey. The goal is to win, not be competitive. Your not going to do that with Jenner. Even 4th lines now are getting smaller and faster. You can talk it up about his "other attributes" but he really doesn't have any. He's not fast, he has little puck handling skill, and he isn't even a good goon.'
At the end of the day, on the top 3 lines you need more than what he offers. If your playing him on the 4th like at 3+ million you are over paying him. A lot of teams are running 4th line wings that are under 1 million.
Look at the roaster. You can't play someone with Jenners speed net to Dubois and expect Dubois to be able to play his game at his speed. The same is true with Wennberg, and now RIley Nash. That's 3 centers who play a more speed skilled game. You have to surround them with like minded players.

Just agree to disagree pal. Somehow you think Boone Jenner is like Jared Boll or something. He had 30 goals a couple years ago. He's not a scrub

a few years ago there were still a large percentage of player in the league over the age of 35. That has changed greatly in the last 2 years. The speed of the game has really increased over the last 2 years. It's just not the same game. The speed difference between McDavid and a lot of top line players isn't that great. So when you get some of these slower guys on the ice, it's a huge competitive disadvantage.
You look on what is on that roaster above, and Jenner is rightly placed on the 4th line. The team has changed in the last 2 years. It's faster, more skilled. Boone went from a Mid 6 player to 4th line winger. No way I waste 3 mil on a 4th line guy.

First off, it's ROSTER, not ROASTER, spelling isn't that difficult. Boone is 25, not 35+. Man, you sure stick to your guns when you don't even have a clue.

typos happen. I wan't referring to Boones age, but the age of other players in the league. when you kick all the 35+ guys out the league the speed of the game increases. That's the point, clearly you couldn't figure that out.
Scoring 30 goals 3 years ago simply isn't the same.
Remember that 2016 Pens cup run. How much faster they were than every other team on the ice. It was night and day. With in two years, that same roaster is now looking average speed in the NHL. Can you not see that on the ice? You see Boones production drop off like a rock in that time. There are reasons for that. There are reasons he doesn't get top line minutes anymore. The game is way faster than it was 3 years ago. It happened over night. You either see that or you are blind. No need to get caught up in a slower players contract when the whole rest of the league is signing faster players and everyone is working on their speed.
