Way too much term. The first couple years will probably be ok but after that, this is gonna be a rough one.

A bit of an overpay for a player who is likely to decline in production. (Can be said for all UFAs I guess) Calgary can be happy for 2 to 3 years though. Don't hate this move, it will improve the Flames. I think they have done some good things this off season. Better team next year.

Not a good contract, but not a bad one, per se, as Neal will be 35 at the very end, and it's only five years. It looks much better compared to the seven year deal for Milan Lucic, the six year deal for Loui Eriksson, and the five year deal for then 32-year-old David Backes.

Its kind of the going rate for a FA like Neal though, no team would be able to sign him for under 5 million.

Short-term, this is good for Calgary. Long-term, probably won't be a great contract at the end.

This contract will age badly like most free agents' contracts but good short term.

3 years and it'd be a good contract. I like canadians teams. So I hope it works at the end...

I Heard Vegas offered more but a shorter term. I know I would've picked Vegas over Calgary in a heart beat. Wyd James

This team needs to go into a full rebuild but seem to be following the Canuck's example. Nothing but bad seasons ahead for this franchise.

I stand corrected. It’s not great either way.

Now that you've said this, James Neal should score 40+ goals and 80+ points every year for the rest of his contract.

I thought about getting James Neal jersey but his season was so bad... They got them on same for VEgas, I'll just wait for STasny to leave or maybe they will have Miller ones on sale if they exist wink. Alberta must have issues giving contracts like this to Neal or Lucic at around 6M a year cap hit smile? Neal Vegas should have traded when he was hot... Should have taken Grabner too that would have worked out better or least given trade return vastly better than Tobias or whatever guy they tossed in the STone deal smile.
