Kapenen would want more money or less years, you cant sign a young NHLer to long term at that cheap. especially when he has upside

I think Nylander will be a bit higher in AAV and closer to Marner's contract some where is the range of 7-7.5 million for Nylander (Nylander and Marner are much more comparable players than people seem to think in terms of ability and overall statistics). I agree that Matthew's is getting 11 million per year at least especially after Tavares signed for that number, there is no way him or his agent is asking/getting anything less than the 11 million per year.

I'd be a little more wary of your salary cap as well, I think a jump to 85 million for 19-20 season is unlikely, I think it'll be a couple million below that.

I agree with this as well, Leafs would love to sign him to a deal like this but Kapenen would never sign a deal longer than 2 years for that little money.

Leafs won't have enough money for Gardiner. Period. It's a nature of free agency. The Leafs have good LHD with Reilly, Dermot and Borgman...maybe even some one else. Having no cap, two short of full roster and an exaggerated cap just shows,,,something has to give and it's likely Gardiner.
