I'm with the vision to pass karlsson along...but taking on bobby Ryan and having Cal Foote as the only piece coming back....pass...let alone dealing Hayes and getting back Foote....big subtraction there for nyr....if nyr are selling a full length karlsson return will be bigger than O'Reilley

Yanni Gourde had 25 goals and 64 points last season on mostly 3rd line duty

remind which one of that rangers had better stats last season?

although i do agree with you that trade is kinda ridiculous

I'm not trying to **** on yanni, just don't think he's worth k Hayes...his stats are somewhat inflated by being on one of the best offenses in the game last year....also don't know how repeatable it was

Yes Gourde had a bunch of goals, but you also have to remember that he's a UFA next year. So you just tried to get a bunch of value out of a guy with 1 year left who you then have to extend, most likely for a significant pay raise.

In the end, we ate Bobby Ryan, traded down in the 2020 2nd, traded Hayes, Vesey, Day, Halverson (who is basically no value either way) for Foote and Gourde. I don't think that makes any sense, and it's nowhere near enough value. Lightning fans would be absolutely ecstatic if they could do this. Hayes is better than Gourde and you inarguably lose value on the rest too.

I didn't try to do anything, this isn't my Armchair-GM

you were just saying all NY got was cal foote as if Yanni Gourde had no value and that's just stupid

Yeah sorry I just kind of say "you" in general I didn't mean you specifically.

Yanni Gourde isn't zero value but if the Rangers trade for him, then they have to extend him, and he's a UFA next year vs Hayes being a better player in my opinion and being an RFA this year, meaning you avoid any sort of bidding war on him and have no real risk of losing him. It's not that Gourde has no value, but he's a player on a super friendly deal right now (1m AAV) and he's DEFINITELY going to get a pretty significant pay raise next year when he reaches UFA, and we then have to extend him and a lot of his value is lessened by that. Or you just lose him and you really did get almost no value out of him. I just think that trading Hayes for Gourde is a mistake, and if the Rangers trade Hayes for Gourde, you lose value there, and then you lose value trading the 2nd, Vesey, Day, and Halverson for Foote. So if you break it down, we lose the entire trade by a pretty wide margin.

That's what I was trying to say.
