I don't get why Leaf fans get a guy like Tavares and immediately want to change 40% of their remaining roster? Hard no on both trades. The Leafs lineup as is, is better than pretty much everyone. Just chill and let the team develop.

If Doughty gets 11, Karlsson should get AT LEAST 12, if not 13 area.

What I find funny is that all leaf fans keep putting Matthews ahead of Tavares on the depth chart at center...

Depth charts don't mean much anywhere, especially in LeafLand. JVR scores 36 goals as allegedly the a second line LWer.. Kadri scores 31 goals as third line centre. Marner top point getter as 2nd/3rd line RWer.

I wish folks that do this silly sign and trades could at least show if the cap works with Karlsson, Matthews and Marner all get raises next year. It works this 2018/19 but I'm doubtful in the future.
No thanks to acquiring that anchor Ryan for play and even half cap.

We'll Pal, in this case a sign and trade isn't so silly, as Dorion has given permission to both Karlson and his agency to negotiate with all interested parties prior to trying to make a deal with that team.

Great strategy by Karlsson and his agent. He knows a year in advance what teams will be willingly to pay in long term deal, instead of trying to squeeze in all the offers in the week before July 1 2017. So let's say a team an EK reach a monetary agreement. The team goes back to Ottawa and offers Ottawa a 7th rounder, because they don't want to give up much in a trade. Of course Ottawa refuses. At least EK know what is being offered and from what teams. Ottawa has lost lots of leverage in any potential trade, and now some teams know they are out of the running (somewhat) in signing EK long term. EK a year in advance know (somewhat) who is the front runner for his services as other teams make other plans cause they don't believe EK is affordable to them.

Any team going through that process will find a way to make it happen now so that they get Karlson for this coming year at a reduced amount. Make no mistake HE IS NOT GOING BACK TO OTTAWA!

He's younger and already as good, Matthews will be the super star but its a 1a/1b first line situation. They'll both get a tonne of ice time.
