Value wise, it is insufficient, burakovsky and niskanen is not equal to erik karlsson, even with the two prospects, it is still off, adding a first would sweeten the deal

Karlsson is an elite player (no duh). But do you think this would make sense for the caps with respect to the future? Burk and Samsonov could be really good players in this league. Karlsson would obviously be a ginormous upgrade from Niskanen, but this is all just for one year. I wouldnt wanna give away that much of our future for just 1 year personally. I do think the value is there, but I just don't think this would be the smartest trade for the caps. Nonetheless, good job putting something pretty decent together.

For the longterm, this doesn't make any sense. I saw the rumor that the Caps are back in talks for acquiring Karlsson and I'm like how the hell do you get that done if you're talking extension? I'm still wary of his ankle where I wonder if it's going to turn out like Peter Forsberg's problematic foot down the road.

Our prospect pool has been better than in recent years and you can still get another good 5 years out of Holtby before you're really looking for your next starting goaltender. Despite Bert's playoff heroics, he's been too up and down for me.
