Toronto Maple Leafs 2019-2020

Created by: KristoferKlith

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2018

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
How do all the big contracts fit? Here's my idea.

Brown for Tanev plus a first for a cap dump of Horton. Fixes log jam on the RW and gives us our top 4 RHD. Dermott gets home xtenaion when Marleau comes off the books. Gardiner either leaves as a UFA or traded for picks/prospects.

as per McKenzie & Lebrun "dont expect anything less than Draisaitl's money for Mitchell Marner and I wouldn't be surprise to see the contract value closer to the 10M AAV figure once everything is done"

with that being said, Marner has Allan Walsh for an agent, he's known to be the worse agent when comes time to negotiations, so I dont necessarily have a hard time to believe what LeBrun and McKenzie were discussing last week

If you really looks at contracts comparisons however, he wont get anywhere close to that. Pasternak should be the comparison and he had a much better year then Marner, his contract year, putting up 80 points. Marner had only 69.. So, if you factor in the signing of other big contracts the team needs to do, the slight hometown discount, a longer 8 year term, and hes a winger. He wont get anywhere close to Matthews/Tavares who will likely have similar contracts.

there's a major flaw in you comment... cap was at 69M when Pasternak signed, expected to be 82.5-84.0M next season, that's a 20% cap increase... and Draisaitl's is a very good comparison and I understand why McKenzie &LeBrun compared him to Marner two palyer to that make a line better on their ow and NEVER forget Allan Walsh
