I'll never understand the infatuation with a player that struggles to play 3/4 of a season. A 1st round pick?

Bold statement. Why does Vancouver want to dump him if that's the case?

Leafs would have to jettison a player next season to fit in Tanev and his 4.4m One reason why Gardiner won't be resigned by the Leafs. Leafs have Hainey and Zaitsev and I know they are hoping that Ozzy, Carrick, Holl maybe in Dermot is the other right side Dman. Part time Tanev probably isn't worth the aggravation to obtain.

Leave Tanev in Vancouver. He has played in 64-70-69-53-42 games in the past 5 seasons... He is a bandaid. Value wise they would be lucky to get a 2nd rounder for him.

Well that would be a OK record in the "original six."

tanev would be your guys 2nd best defenseman easily, and i think hes just gunna stay in vancouver. if people are gunna under value him like that, benning would be stupid to move him. lets say he plays a full season in toronto, benning is gunna kick himself for trading him

I know it's subjective, but second best dman? Better than Reilly, and Gardiner?I question if he better than what Dermot was in his half season and or better than the hard minutes Hainsey played. Again he would play the right side where Zaitsev and Hainsey play. So he would be better than Carrick/Polak combo he replaces but at what cost? Best thing the Canucks can for in a trade, is have Tanev get healthy, play healthy and well and then he could be traded for optimism price at TDL.
But I do find these endless Tanev trades to the Leafs rather silly. Please can't Tanev be traded to any team but the Leafs Gee, it's a 31 team league.

Even IF that's true which it isn't.... it's kinda hard to call a player that can't play a full season the best at anything...

I feel he doesn't have a reason to play so lets himself recover for long while's sort of like Price these past two years

Okay last question... why does Vancouver want Gardiner?

Gardiner is proven to run a powerplay, put up 50+ points last season which the Canucks desperately need. Gardiner is a defensive liability though.

Chris Tanev is one of the best defensive dmen in this league. You can’t argue against that, and if you choose to do so, your opinion is irrelevant quite frankly. Injuries have hurt his value, but there’s no denying that either, but his play is still top-class in terms of shutting opposing top lines down. When healthy, that’s always the role he takes part in.

He’s better than all Leafs defenceman other than Reilly. Gardener can’t make a simple play in his own zone for his life (whereas that’s Tanev’s speciality). Hainsey is a good defensive dman but is in no way at Tanev’s level. Dermott is the only guy who maybe has a case here, but other than that there’s no one other than Reilly better at actually defending than Tanev.

The value for top pairing RHD aren’t cheap in today’s market, so there’s no way despite the injuries that Tanev is worth a 2nd or any less. A realistic asking price is a 1st or 2nd + a prospect - one of Bracco or Nielsen let’s say.

As for the rebuilding Canucks comment, yes the Canucks aren’t nearly done a rebuild, but moving Tanev will help accelerate that; Tanev doesn’t have a place in the Canucks 5+ years down the road. And as for palhal’s comment regarding the Tanev trades only to the Leafs...our bad Sticking Out Tongue

That's where your wrong. He has been known to have a brain fart or whatever but since Babs has got here they have dropped DRAMATICALLY... He's great at defending the rush it's his net front and boards play that he needs to work on. If this summer he can get jacked and play tough then I have 0 reason to trade him. Cause I wouldn't mind pairings that looked like...

Gardiner-Rielly
Dermott-Zaitsev
Borgman-Hainsey
Then have Carrick and Marincin as 7th and 8th D respectively

Why have Gardiner and Reilly on the same pairing, I definelty want to see Reilly and Hainsey at the top pairing as it gives insurance for the Leafs every night.

Why? Cause they are easily the Leafs 2 best defencemen.

Hainsey gets more time to rest by not being on the top pairing. And you still have the option of playing Rielly with Hainsey to close out games. It's not like I'm trading him just moving him down a pairing.
