What i think the opening roster should be with a trade with STL

Description
Trading for Edmundson from STL make sense seeing we need a Shutdown dman and STL need another RW from what i'm seeing from their depth chart. Edmundson is young, RHD, and physical so if they can swing this deal could be the final piece that could really help solidify this roster. Also Tavares will be named captain of the Leafs by the end of training camp.

He actually had a very sold season last year with MIN and could bring some vet leadership to this roster.

i think the team has enough vet leadership on the roster and would hate to waste a roster spot with so many players the look NHL ready in the Marlies

Well if look at how they are bringing up players they would rather have them down there 1 year too long than 1 year too early. But still thats 4th line/depth forward the more important thing is solidifying the D. What do you think of my trade?

A solid NHL Dman as you suggest gets more in return than Brown and Carrick. I'm sure Edmundson is a LHD. I agree with jordan89 about the veteran leadership, and think Grunstrom deserves to be a Leafs.
Maybe even Borgman gets time LHD, thought the Leafs still have capable players with Reilly, Gardiner and Dermot on the left side.
Actually I wouldn't mind signing Winnick. He's a Toronto boy/resident. He might be OK signing with the Leafs if other teams bypass him. He might be Marlie though, if he's OK with that.

I agree. Leafs do not need more LD. They have tons of LD in their system. (Rosen, Borgman, Nielson, Hainsey...list goes on)
If there are someone better in D-zone with similar quality to J.Gardiner, I will trade him but I look at other RDs around the league, I dont see many RDs who seems better than Zaitsev with low CAP.

For Forwards, they do not need to add anyone. The 4th line will get less than 5min per game in 5 vs 5 so they just need cheap Big Faceoff Specialist at Centre (F.Gauthier) and PK specialist at wing (Grundstrom, Brown/Kapanen). Even they can double shift top 3 centres (really do not need 4th line centre)

I don't think Edmundson is top pair D, 2nd pair okay.

I think that if we're trading Edmundson we'd want at least Kapanen and a 1st/2nd. He's a legit top 4 shutdown guy.

Like ive said before we need to stop looking at shutdown or defensive defenseman as lhd and rhd it is more important that they are comfortable playing on both side which from what i gather he is. We also need a proven physical dman Babcock played polak even though every stat known said carrick should play because he likes having a player like that to push back when needed. And thats the point of signing a winnik this way he can be a depth/4th line if they feel grundstrom is not ready opening game.

If you want kapanen it him alone he has 1st line upside where brown is a versitle 2/3 line winger.

I know but if Hainsey was playing top pair min last season with his skill and how he complements reilly i could see him ending up playing alot of time with him. Polak played a bit last and he's 1/2 as skilled as Edmondson.
