This would certainly make Tampa pretty scary for the next season but they'll have a hard time keeping it all together and if Karlsson regresses in his 30's the team would be terrible in 3-5 years and would have very little options to move bad contracts out.

Swap Stralman and Karlsson so you always have one of the two out there for 80% of the game.

Only reason for the 4 stars is that this would be a cup winning team, meaning the 2019 st rounder would already be on the way to the NYR. You'll have to juggle that around.

Habs would love it, Sens may get better prospects than that elsewhere. But Yzerman is way smarter than that, he knows he has to keep some young and relatively cheap talent around to balance his cap problems going forward. The team above works for just one season within the cap, and then explodes when Karlsson goes up to $11M per year, Pacioretty goes up to $6.5M per year, and you still need to re-sign Kucherov, Point and McDonagh. Any all-star team like this has to have some balance of new talent coming in each year on the bottom end of the salary scale.

That 2019 1st is possibly going to NYR.
These trades are both terrible for Tampa Bay. You really think we're going to give that much up for a year of Pacioretty? Plus you're basically gutting us of our valuable picks, when we easily could decline by losing people in free agency.

I'm seeing this a lot in TBL AGMs, you can't just give away your 2019 1st round pick. There has to be a condition on it. The reason is because if you win the cup, then that 2019 2nd you sent to NYR becomes a 2019 1st. So you can give the 1st if you don't win the cup, but if you win the cup, you would have promised the pick to two different teams, which is not allowed. So, you have to set up a fallback plan so if you win the cup you still compensate the team you want to send that 2019 1st to.
