I like the idea of getting Tiffoli but..........not for Pesce

would have to pass

Also Muzzin on the left side doesn't help us

What if it was Faulk instead of Pesce and Martinez instead of Muzzin? Marty is a lefty, but he plays on the right side for the Kings.

If you’re giving up Toffoli, you better get Slavin or Pesce back. Faulk is overrated imo.

That is fine in terms of value, it just doesn't make sense for us to bring back a D

even with Faulk gone, we have........

Slavin - Hamilton
DeHaan - Pesce
Fleury - TVR

Bringing Martinez in would just mean us trying to flip him somewhere else

Our D and you cap situation just makes us difficult trade partners

Is pesce a 20 goal scorer #2 defenseman??? because I must be missing something for trading Toffoli *OR* Muzzin.

He’s not an offensive defensemen. So you’re somewhat making a moot point. He is however a top 4 border line top pairing RHD at sill a young age. His pairing with slavvin was analytically one of the best pairings in the league

Kind of obvious here, but why would the offensively starved Kings trade away a 30 goal scorer to add defense when they just won the Jennings trophy? I thought for sure when I clicked this trade I’d see some forwards coming the Kings way. With all the D moves Carolina has made his off season, I agree the Kings are poor trading partners...

This trade is more about clearing out cap space for 2019-20 than bringing back specific needs. As it stands, if the Kings make no more moves and assuming a modest increase to an $82M cap hit, the Kings are going to have to clear out over $2M in salary next season to fit in Doughty's extension and new contracts for Kempe and Iafallo. It solves the RHD problem the Kings have without the PR hit for Voynov, while locking up a quality young defenseman at a reasonable salary for the next six years (compared to only two more for Muzzin).

It also brings back a very popular player in Justin Williams and allows him another shot at a Cup run. Since this is the final year of his contract, his money coming off the books allows for the Kings to fit under the cap next season. If Vilardi doesn't disappoint, Toffoli is likely to be the player that gets shipped out next summer anyway. The Kings can offer Williams a new contract around $2-2.5M to be the third line RW in 2019 after Vilardi takes over in the top six. If he takes it, great. If not, the Kings can fill that spot via free agency.

If Carolina isn't willing to swap Pesce for Muzzin with Toffoli as the reward, then it's moot.

I made a 2019-20 roster to show how it would work the first year of Doughty's extension.
