Lightning are taking too long. Let's try to get Karlsson instead.

Created by: Chigurrhh
Team: 2018-19 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 6, 2018
Published: Jul. 6, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ottawa gets an offensive RHD to replace Karlsson, an asset to sell to another team, a promising winger that lit up the AHL last year, and a 1st. Penguins now have a really good group of top 4 defensemen. Jarry and Picks can be traded to bring in a winger.

Phil Kessel could then be traded in the next offseason to make room for Guentzel's and Karlsson's extensions.

Future playoff battles with the Pens? Sens are going have trouble making the playoffs for a few years and then trying to win two rounds in the Atlantic seems improbable for length of Karlsson's new contract.

Future playoff battles??

First of all, the thought of this group in Ottawa making the playoffs is ridiculous. Second of all, they are working on a deal with Tampa, a playoff team in their own division. Just because you wouldn't want him on the pens, doesn't mean that it wouldn't happen if the value is right.

Also, remember that Karlsson is on his last year of his deal and the team has made it clear that he is being dealt. This lowers his trade value. He also controls where he goes by agreeing to a contract extension (which also limits where he can be traded). I think people are going to be very surprised by the lack of return when he is eventually traded to Dallas or Tampa.

I think the value is good, but I don’t think that’s the package Ottawa wants. I think they want a young high end piece like sergachev and pitt just doesn’t have that

Yeah, I agree. Was bored and wanted to see if I could put together a reasonable package for a Karlsson trade.

I'm curious to see if Ottawa even manages to get Sergachev or Heiskanen. They don't have a ton of leverage here.
