I don't think it makes sense for Buffalo to pay to take on Bobby Ryan's contract. They need to prove they are ready to compete by the end of Dahlin's ELC, which is 3 years from now; otherwise this whole rebuild period has been more or less a waste. By that point, Ryan will still be on the books. He doesn't have a positive value, and that's why the Karlsson trade is so nuanced when Ryan is included, and why many people hope the Sens just sell Karlsson by himself. You'd get a significantly better return by just selling Karlsson because no one wants Bobby Ryan's contract. You have to pay someone to take it, they won't pay you to eat that deal for that player.

Yeah it is. OTT is getting Ristolainen + 2019 1st (TB) + $8.35M in cap space in the rumored structure.

The above deal OTT gets: Brodie + Stone + Jankowski + 2019 1st (CGY) + $3.65M in cap space.

OTT would take the deal with the young middle six center in it and the brother of Mark Stone. Equal or better 1st round pick too. And the Ryan contract still moves out the door in both cases.

I should’ve added: the current hottest rumor seems to be the 3-way deal with OTT/TB/BUF, where BUF takes on a pile of contracts and replaces Ristolainen with Sergachev. Most BUF fans aren’t loving the idea, rightly so.

This deal is better value for both OTT and BUF.

Almost positive one of Sergachev or Point will be in the return back. Tampa does not want Ryan at all.

TB can’t afford any of Ryan’s contract. That’s why BUF and NJ are being rumored as third parties to take that contract.
