I mean everyone complaining about the cap space saved by state tax .......look at the last 10 years and has any of those teams won a cup? its a minor advantage.....I imagine the beaches and the amazing life style would keep him there over 1-1.5 million $$$ esp when you're making 9.5m a year.yeah he signed for 1-1.5 less but realistically he wanted to stay there and thats why he did so.........if that really mattered Neal would be in Vegas

If wingers Evander Kane getting 7m X 7 and JVR getting 7m X 5, looks likes a good deal for Tampa....and Kucherov.
I really think these tax scenarios are really bogus. Highly paid players do not pay personal income tax rates on much of their salaries.

Why not? He's younger, has been better than Stamkos the last three seasons, and doesn't have the injury history Stamkos has.

Stamkos' deal is also below the current market value, since he signed it two years ago. The cap has gone up, as have player salaries so Kucherov was fully expected to make more than Stamkos, and deservedly so.

I disagree of those who thinks that's a steal. But it's certainly a very good sign. Kucherov is one (maybe THE) of the most prolifics wingers of the league. He worths the contract he gots.

Tampa did a really good job of leveraging lack of state tax, as well as a want to build a winner in this deal. The deal is good, but what makes it a real steal is that they managed to get some savings on a bridge deal, and not get absolutely punished for it later. He took a 3 year bridge, became the highest scoring player at his position over that bridge, but came out of the deal without becoming the highest paid player at that position, even with the cap increasing quite a bit. This is a win for Tampa.

$9.5 is like $12.2M in Toronto/MTL/Ottawa... Cap should be adjusted for state/provincial taxes.

When they don't allow Canadian tire to attend F/A meetings, then maybe they could look at that.
