Draisaitl>>>Drouin
Klefbom>>>Mete
Price>>Talbot
So add a 1st to make up for it. It can be lotto protected.

Ok but how I personally would break this trade is Price > Talbot and Klefbom - Draisaitl > Mete and Lehkonen + 1st to Edmonton. Take that 1st out 1. because its going to be a high 1st and 2. because there shouldn't be a "to make up the difference" in this trade. Again imo.

There absolutely is value that needs to be made up. MTL gets a 1C, a solid D and out from under that Price contract. They give up a top 6 winger, Price (risky even at the new $) a prospect D man and a 1st. If anything, MTL should probably give up more!

Nobody wants Price's contract even at $7M, sorry. I wouldn't trade him for Talbot straight up just because of the contract.

That is a little bit of an exaggeration. If MTL called up Chiarelli and said "we will trade you Carey Price (best goalie in the world when healthy) for Talbot and we will retain $3.5 mil" he would be speechless and couldn't put pen to paper fast enough. Plus, $7 mil is what top goalies go for. Look at Rinne and Bob.

Not an exaggeration at all. I don't know what Chiarelli would do, but the general feeling about Price's contract is akin to Weber's et al - it's too much money and for too long. Can Price play at that level anymore? Last season was terrible - most backups posted better numbers than he did. Even if he rebounds, how long will he be playing at a $7M level? He'll be 31 at training camp.

Rinne is currently 35 and is still one of the best.. Luongo is 39 and is stil playing great. MTL was a dumpster fire last year and I highly doubt it was all Price's fault. A team would gladly take Price at a $7 mil cap hit and that is a fact!

Then... why not keep him? Why are you trying so hard to get rid of him? In your reply to JelloPony above, your justification for the trade was to get "out from under that Price contract."

You don't believe it yourself.

Besides, if the "dumpster fire last year" wasn't Price's fault, why was his SV% at AHL levels? Good goaltenders on terrible teams have poor GAA's but good SV%. Among goalies that had 4 or more GP last year (to eliminate one-game-wonders), Price's SV% was 64th in the league. Do the math, 31 starters + 31 backups = 62. Price didn't even qualify.

His 3.11 GAA had him in 58th place.

Eight more years, you say? No thank you, sir!

MTL fans seem to want to get rid of Price. My personal opinion is that, that is a stupid move! I think Price will return to his normal form and be elite again. So why not grab him at a discount?
P.S. Talbot isn’t all that good.
