Blues with Panarin

Created by: Bklentz21
Team: 2018-19 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 10, 2018
Published: Jul. 10, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Making the move for Panarin and bringing in former linemate Dadonov gives him that extra enticement to stay put with them. I think he signs 4 year extension. Him, Tarasenko, and Dadonov terrorize opposing PK’s and goaltenders. Having one of the top 3 PP in the league and possibly top 5 GF. All they need then is too get some guys too step up in D and they will be set for a good set of cup runs

I mean, you aren't gonna get Panarin for that package anyway....

Bouwmeester = 34-year old cap dump
Kostin= Young prospect that lost a little value last season after a sub-par year in the AHL
Kyrou = Top prospect

You're really not getting him for that price when you include one of the Jackets good prospects (Texier) and a young defenseman (Scott Harrington).

A deal for Panarin is going to start at a top prospect, a young player with NHL experience, and a 1st round pick

Klim Kostin
Robby Fabbri
1st Round Pick

That's the package that starts the conversation with the Blue Jackets. With Panarin on the line, I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to somehow work Dominik Bokk into the deal.

Okay. I don’t think Columbus is gonna get much for him unless he is open to an extension. I think the blues are really the only team that seem like he’d sign an extension with.

Kyrou's still a 'top prospect' right?

This is decent. I won't give you one star for forgetting Edmundson lol

I would think that any team trying to trade for him would do so with the intent to extend him, no? If Panarin isn't going to sign an extension, I'm not sure I'd even try trading for him. It's going to cost way too much just to see him walk at the end of the season.

If he’s not extending. Obviously his trade price would drop. But if he could be added to your team for a run. A deep run. Why wouldn’t you.

Because you're essentially throwing away a good crop of young guys, that could win multiple Cups, for one guy that gives you a chance at one Cup. I'd rather be a serious contender for the next 8 years than be a serious contender for 1 year and then on the fringe for the next 8 years.

A perfect example of this is what happened to Dallas in 1999. They traded away Jarome Iginla in 1995 for Joe Nieuwendyk. Nieuwendyk went on to play a big role in the 1999 Stanley Cup win for Dallas...but that's the only Cup they've won. If the Stars had kept Jarome Iginla they would have still been Stanley Cup contenders in '99, but they also would have had a better team, and been contenders throughout the early-mid 2000's as well. It's very possible that the Stars sacrificed multiple Cup runs for that one Stanley Cup in 1999.

Don't sacrifice a big piece of the Blues for the next 8 years for one potential Cup run.

No I’m not saying dump off some young guys. It’s awhole different story if he is just a rental at the deadline but if you could get him to agree on an extension before the trade i think the value is fair. But at the deadline or sooner knowing he won’t sign. His value will decrease greatly. But. He could still fetch something.

Wait lol. Kyrou didn't play in the AHL, he was in the OHL and was the MVP.

However, if we got him for the package you stated i'd be STOKED.

Got Kyrou and Kostin flipped. My bad. My point still remains. Just got a little mixed on the names for a second.

But, it doesn't. Kostin was an 18 y/o kid playing in the US on NHL sized ice for the first time in his life, adjusting to a new language, new culture and new style of hockey. Not to mention the farm team he was on wasn't controlled by the Blues so he was getting 4th line minutes and no PP. He still put up fine numbers considering and was putting flashes regularly.

Dude is a blue chipper.

Dude I would trade 10-20 years in the lottery for one damn cup. Don’t give me that. Sustained success is great, but I’d trade it all for one cup in STL.

So true. Ask Capital fans, ask the kings, Blackhawks. They have year after year given up chances of prospects for a run at the cup. They wouldn’t trade that for anything. Sometimes you gotta take that risk
