Yeah completely true, and on top of that they'd never sign and trade him to their biggest rivals. It is more of a signal that the Flyers need a young starting goalie because these two won't cut it if they want to make a legitimate run before this core ages

Not getting Ryan Ellis for Simmonds

Depending on need, that package very well could get Ryan Ellis if they both do not have extensions in place.

Exactly, and Ellis can always just go back to NSH after the season. Ya he would miss out on a possible run but then again with Ellis the Flyers could go on a run too.

This trade is envisioned with both teams in the race next year. Flyers core is aging and needs to make a run while they still can, but if they aren't in the race come deadline time I could see them moving Simmonds as a rental for either prospects or draft picks
