Tavares and Matthews’ lines will be getting 18-20 mins a night, Kadri about 15-18. The 4th will get the remaining 4-8 mins. Why would you bury Johnsson and Kapanen just to overpay a big name who is a shadow of the player he used to be?

Nash probably is going to retire anyways unless he is going to a surefire cup contender. I don't think Toronto is that team next year Toronto is the future of the east if they keep Mathews, but they shouldn't force it into next season

I think its more likely nash takes a deal like this from Toronto than a 2 million deal from like Pittsburgh or Washington. Its a good situation for both sides. Toronto gets a guy who can slide all over the line up short term and nash gets his last big contract and a good chance to chase a ring.

You can stick a fork in an electrical socket too. Doesn’t mean it’s not a terrible idea.

Tons of free cap space, injuries will happen, and none of these kids were rushed into the NHL so I don't see Grundstrom up here to start. It's a win win. How you can argue it is odd. Even if they "bury Johnsson on the 4th line for some of the year, what's it gonna hurt him? Maybe hurt his leverage the following contract which doesn't sound bad
