Yea Montreal says no I wouldn’t want Hortons contract Kadri is good but we give up too much pacioretty and Weber we consider Weber to have more value he isn’t a cap dump to us if we retain we need more coming back.

I would be awfully hesitant to take on Weber. Who knows how bad his injuries are and if he will ever be a dominant force again.

This could be the worst trade ever proposed on here.

Weber is dust, the guy is broken, slow and costs 8 million a season until he's 41.

The Leafs have no need for any wingers, they are fine and besides that Kadri is better than Patches.

On top of all that you are giving up a 1st rounder.

Hard no on all of this. And there is zero ways this could ever work.

1) Weber's contract makes him unaffordable for TO (and that's if we operate on the assumption that he doesn't decline anymore than he already has) he costs way too much for what he offers.
2) TO has amazing depth in the middle, sacrificing it for a winger who is leaving his prime makes zero sense

Then you are truly a terrible fan. This trade is a slam dunk win for Montreal. It would be a Chiarelli move of epic failure for the Leafs.

There is no guarantee what Weber will look when he comes back. I am actually a huge fan of Shea Weber and was super pissed with how Montreal, their staff and management handled him and his injuries last season. The fact that he was at one point cleared to come back before being deemed out indefinitely is simply ridiculous.

This is an interesting trade but Montreal says no. Weber is a bit of a question mark but with that much retained he is making under $5 million on the cap while only costing the leafs $3 million in real dollars. When he came back he would also be Toronto’s best defenceman and give them a leader in the room for years to come, not to mention that when he did retire Nashville pays the rest of his contract.

Pacioretty would add a 30 goal scorer to put beside Tavares or Mathews for the season, which would create an even more elite top 6. He would also take on a role on their PK as Pacioretty is good defensively.

And there isn’t a lot coming back. Kadri is good but he has only put up 30 goals a season while playing behind Mathews, Montreal would throw him out as their #1 center and he has shown he isn’t successful in that role. Horton is a cap dump that would straight on LTIR, Carrick is a decent prospect but not one that stands out and the first round pick is basically a second.

Easy pass from the Habs.

Montreal is so done dude. Weber was one of the best defenceman in the League, like 5 years ago. He's declining and this injury certainly won't help. He's not a fast skater and is losing steps as he moves deeper into the mid 30's and he's making 8 million a season. Very soon he'll be a bottom pairing PK specialist with several years of 8 million dollar cap hit. Terrible trade and one the Leafs would never want to be part of.

No chance Leafs trade Kadri, he is on team friendly deal for years.

I’m aware of Montreal’s current state. I think you mean Weber has been one of the league best defenceman FOR the past 5 years. Can’t say he is declining until he is actually playing and shows decline, until then you don’t know how he is going to play. There have been numerous elite defenceman play after injuries like his, at his age and come back to play, Chara, Pronger, Markov are examples. He is making $7.8 on the cap but only $3 million in real dollars and if we’re talking about this trade then Toronto getting him at a $5 cap hit, which is a steal. And length of the contract doesn’t matter because it wouldn’t effect Toronto long term as Nashville pays it when he retires. And Babcock has gone on the record saying he would win the cup if he had Weber on his blue line and I think they would jump at the chance to get him, especially if they get Montreal to retain salary.

It doesn't matter what Babcock wants, if it was up to him, Polak would have been signed. Dubas is the smartest GM in the game currently and he knows that Weber is a declining asset with a huge cap hit. His age and contract make him a terrible addition to the Leafs since it would mean they would have to remove a younger asset that likely has more value than weber right now.

Weber wasn't the best defenceman on his team when he was traded and Subban was and is far better than Weber. He's a slow man in a fast man's world. If it wasn't for his shot from the blueline on the powerplay, he'd be utterly worthless at his cap hit.

Wow guy GM for two months and already smarter then everyone else. And once again I’m talking about the value of trade above, where he has a $5 million cap hit which even at his age is a good price.

You keep calling him slow, which I must have missed while watching every Montreal game he has ever played. I mean when I watch him I don’t see guys blowing by him or him having trouble keeping up, but once again we don’t know until we actually watch him play in December.

We’re also not discussing the Subban trade, believe me, I was crushed when it happened (just check out my handle). But it should also be noted that Weber was one of the reasons why Josi, Edholm and Ellis are as good as they are. They will tell you how good of a team mate and mentor he was when they were there.

In the end we’re talking about a hypothetical trade that gives Toronto a $5 million top pairing defenceman, until he comes back from injury and actually shows a decline of play that’s what you have to assume he is.

Exchange Nylander for Kadri and we may have a deal.
