Here's the Solution

Created by: OldNYIfan

Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2018
Published: Jul. 12, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Having traded Abdelkader, there's plenty of cap space to sign Dylan Larkin for what everyone thinks is his true market value. (If you think a draft pick should be added to the trade to even it out, fine!)

From all things I’ve heard Zetterberg will be going on to the LTIR with a back problem too. So that about 6 mil more.

Playing golf and fighting the massive crunching hits that mother nature puts on (light gusts of wind) one time for a few hours versus playing hockey against 200+ lb dudes trying to knock you into the 3rd row day after day after day for months... I'd say him playing a round with the boys isn't the best indicator of how healthy his back is.

I hope not. I remember 2 different playoff series where he almost singlehandedly beat 1 of my 2 local teams (one year the Kings, one year the Ducks). So he deserves to go out on his shield, not on LTIR.

I see Red Wings as not a playoff team, if that's the case there is no reason to be that close to cap right now.

I see them dealing Nyquist and Kronwall at deadline or perhaps before season starts.

I'm sorry perhaps my first comment wasn't clear enough for you. He would need to go on LTIR for his back and i doubt the league would accept it if he was playing golf in the summer.

An interesting trade. Don't know enough about Pettersson to make a good judgment on this. Had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't Elias Pettersson, lol. Looking at his elite prospect profile, he has good size and played in the AHL last year. Is he more defense or offense?
Don't know if Abdelkader is someone Detroit wants to trade or if Anaheim will take his contract; It has a high AVG for the type of game he plays. You will also have to get him to waive his NTC, and I don't know if Anaheim would be a team he would be willing to go to.
Detroit has to make a move with around 4.2 million in cap space left to sign Larkin. I see Nyquist as the likely candidate currently, but Abdelkader is intriguing if he is willing to waive the NTC. Likely Abdelkader stays on until his Modified NTC kicks in for the 2019-20 season (If Detroit misses the playoffs or he is not a top 9 forward in terms of TOI).

Pettersson played the last quarter of the season and was a very good defensive puck-mover. He's one year ahead of Larsson although the latter was a first-round pick (#27) and Pettersson was a second-rounder (#38). I think his offense is going to take some time to develop while Larsson's defensive ability is in question (San Diego had a couple of defensemen who were considered better). My trade assumes Abdelkader would accept the Ducks; I like him for Anaheim more than Nyquist due to the contract length and his known character strength. A lot of people have suggested trading for Nyquist but I don't like trading for guys in the last season of their contract. For every Evander Kane, there's a Milan Lucic.
