Taking Another Step Forward

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2018-19 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2018

Description
This is a very good team for this year, but note the $4.9M in cap room and the need to re-sign Laine, Myers and Wheeler next year. That's why the Hellebuyck price kinda surprised me. Maybe the GM can save some money on the Trouba-Morrissey duo.

Well EX-CUUUUSE me! So that's the reason why you gave this team one star???? How would your team look any different? More important, how would a Winnipeg Jets fan actually WANT the team to look different?

No he won't, he'll sign with term for 5-6mill. Not unless he wants another 2+ years of making sub 5mill from his arbitration and then Chevy's. At that point he'll be 27 without ever having been paid what he's worth (5-6mill). If the goal is to make enough money to retire in his mid-30s and never work again after the NHL, it is in his best interests to sign what Chevy will offer him.

As a Jets fan I'd rather see Appleton make the roster. Eliminates the need for Chaisson and gives the AHL rookie of the year a chance to shine. Jack Roslovic should start the season at 2C. He put up 1.9P/60 even strength on a bottom 6 line, and is fast enough to gel with Laine and Ehlers. For reference everything Roslovic has done in his AHL career till now, projects that Roslovic is comparable to Giroux. Otherwise you have a couple 4th liners in other spots and Connor on the 4th line. None of that makes any sense, but c'est la vie. The contracts are definitely decent value.

Thanks a lot for the insight! If I do another Winnipeg team (maybe after a couple of signings), I'll promote Appleton. To tell the truth, I didn't know about him. Good luck this year!

The Jets have a few in the system to compensate for Chiasson. This roster just needs to be arranged. Also, when 2019 rolls around, the Jets will need to trade either Little or Perreault to fit in the others.

Oh, say it ain't so! I like both Little and Perreault as character and quality players (particularly Mathieu from his time here in Anaheim). Also, in fairness to me, I only saw three RW's in your system and they were all 25 or older and don't seem to be going anywhere.

I just think it's such fallacy that UFAs HAVE to be resigned. If there is no cap room, they are free. More important is to sign RFAs and generally they provide better $$$$ dollar value and long term. Trouba has let in know he wants to be a UFA but has contract actions. Either keep as a two year rental or trade him for value, but doubt if signs long term as a Jet.
