The Penguins' cap space is tight with the re-signing of Jamie Oleksiak. The next move the Penguins need to make is a trade to create cap space and to get better.

Isn't that usually the goal "to get better"? When you are a cup contender, you should use all the cap space available.

JR really made it harder on himself than he needed to, Oleksiak didn't warrant that massive of a raise, so once again he cut his space by an extra 500k for 0 reason, that's at least the second time this offseason. That is over a million dollars thrown away.

Whatever looks bad on paper functions better on the ice. Rutherford's spending on defense should lead to the Penguins having the better corps of defensemen in the 2018-2019 season.
