?Why would Toronto trade someone who is going to be a top 10 centre for a decade?

I like the fact that you're doing something different, here, but there's no way TOR even consider trading away Matthews for at least the next 5 years. And...let's be honest, he's worth way more than that even though I don't like him nor the Leafs. You'd need to add a first round pick, a second round pick and an "A+" list prospect going to TOR in order for it to be taken seriously. I'd see something like OEL + Keller + 1st round pick for AM34 + Gardiner.

They need a top 1 defensemen and Cap relief to sign Mitch Marner to long term.

Could be it. But also includind Horton would provide Cap space to be use to go all the way.

But again...I don't really see the point. Leafs will trade away Nylander or/and Marner BEFORE parting ways with Matthews.

I'm giving you four stars for the Wildest Idea of the Month/Stirring Up the Hornets' Nest Award, and it's only the 14th of the month! Seriously, there's no more chance of Toronto trading Matthews (or Tavares) than there is of Edmonton trading Connor McDavid or Pittsburgh trading Sidney Crosby. Hockey teams are just that -- teams. One guy does not make a team a winner. Has anyone forgotten that Wayne Gretzky never won a Stanley Cup after being traded away from Edmonton? (And, in fact, only made the Finals once.)

I think it would take even more: Clayton Keller + Oliver Ekman-Larsson + Pierre-Oliver Joseph + Barrett Haydon + a first-round pick, and what general manager would denude his team like that?

No it would not. You are exagerating a lot. Including Clayton Keller in that deal drastically evens things out. That guy's a scoring machine too and a phenomenal young player. You need to watch other NHL games than Leafs games

Don't worry. EVERYBODY will be seeing a lot of Leafs games come spring -- even me, here in Southern California. I get to watch your Desert Dogs (boy, THERE's a perfect nickname!) too much, not Leafs games.

By the way, Keller is the next Johnny Gaudreau. Both of your Coyotes are world-class players.

I think he'll be even better than Gaudreau. Doing the same kind of things Gaudreau did in his rookie seasons, but 2 years younger. ARI will be dangerous this season and if Galchenyuk finally explode, watch out for them
