too costly? That is a major underpayment
Like I said, if he wants to be a Pen we can wait. Our cap situation isn't to a point where we can give up good young players on the cheap. Look at next year and start doing the math.
Karlsson at 10 is 66mil, Gunz at 6 mil is 72 mil, ZAR at 2 mil is 74 mil. Lets say the cap is 84 mil next year. You got 10 mil left. Back up goalie and defense man on minimum you at 9 million.
So you got 9 million and only 7 forwards on contract. How does that work out for the team?
It doesn't especially when two of those players are 3rd line guys including a 3C. A good 3C probably cost 3-4 million, down to 5, A decent winger, down to 2 million. That's only 9. Still need 4 other guys. Would never fit the cap.
Trading the good young talent isn't worth it given the cap situation. They need to be able to keep those low cap hits on good players. It's the only way to make the team really work. They are better off waiting, then trading Letang for a cheap good young player if they can.
