Red Wings 2019-20

Created by: CuyahogaKid
Team: 2019-20 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 15, 2018
Published: Jul. 15, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
As an outsider, I see the Red Wings setting up quite nicely, and really had a solid draft. Getting Veleno, Zadina, and McIssac could be solid acquisitions for the organization.

The wings could have a big line of the future: Zadina-Larkin-Mantha, and if they added a top center in the top 5 next year like Hughes, to a group that also includes Rassmussen and Veleno, they would quietly be assembling a solid center group.

The concern would be D. In this scenario, I went after the big fish in 2019 UFA and went hard after Ryan Ellis. I also traded for Justin Faulk in 2018 as Carolina comes calling for a goaltender and possibly Svechnikov and Athanasiou.

The wings will continue to need to add defenseman in the draft along with goaltending.

With Kronwall, Ericcson, Daley, Helm, Zetterberg Howards salaries all coming off over the next two years from this point, their future looks bright.

I can see Toronto going for him as a veteran addition for the playoffs given his familarity with coach Babcock as a deadline rental

This is a summer 2018 Trade

Ok, now here, I would only trade Veleno if I knew I was drafting a center top five next year, so here it's just hypothetical if the Wings drafted a top C next year. With Larkin and maybe a guy like Hughes, and then a player like Veleno in waiting, the Wings would quietly be amassing a nice collection of centers.

Wings fan here, you are putting waaay too much value on Kronwall, regardless of him having spent time under Babcock. If the Leafs are going to make a trade deadline deal for a veteran defenseman, I doubt they go after one who barely has two knees left to play on and he's currently on the last year of his contract at 37 years old. There are much better options out there for Toronto if they really want to move a 2nd, 3rd and a prospect than Kronwall.

Carolina accepts. Svechnikov, Athanasiou, Howard and a 2nd for Justin Faulk? Yeah. They're cool with that.

Kronwall isn't waiving for Toronto, He's won a cup and is happy with that. Howard isn't being dealt either Holland will sign him for one or two year he plans on riding out the tandem of Howard and Bernier for the next two to three years. Until the kids are ready.
