Max Pacioretty trade proposal

Created by: GaryMcBettman
Team: 2018-19 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 16, 2018
Published: Jul. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I see a lot of proposals including Anisimov, but I don't think they would trade him in order to keep good center depth. If CHI trades for Patches or Skinner, they have to win now.
On the Montreal side, I think negociations start with the name of Nicolas Beaudin. He's a french canadian, left defensemen and Bergevin made public that they really wanted him at the draft.
What do you guys think?
Trades
CHI
  1. Benn, Jordie ($550,000 retained)
  2. Pacioretty, Max ($2,250,000 retained)
  3. 2019 5th round pick (CHI)
MTL
  1. Forsling, Gustav
  2. 2019 2nd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
- Rights to Nicolas Beaudin.
- 2019 2nd pick becomes a 2020 1st if Pacioretty signs an extension.

I think you're right that Montreal can live with picks and prospects, but having them retain salary on two players when you've got room under the cap for both isn't going to happen.

Teams are limited to retaining salary on three players at a time, so if MTL are thinking of rebuilding, this keeps them from retaining on Alzner and Weber at the trade deadline.

Habs fans' opinions on Jordie Benn are mixed, sure, but he alone is just about worth forsling, before you start retaining salary on him.

If the Hawks want more cap relief, and you don't want to indulge Montreal's need for a good center, toss in Kruger. Then you can still send that lowball offer to Nash, or pick something up at the deadline.

If I’m Bergiven I’m not accepting any Max trade that doesn’t include a first round pick next year. Especially when retaining money and making him a $2.2 million dollar 30 goal scorer.

I didn't know that teams are limited to retain the salary of 3 contracts at a time and that changes my perspective of course, but I still wouldn't be shy to retain on Pacioretty because his contract ends in 2019. I also like your train of thoughts about Kruger and Forsling. I think it would be a good move to include Benn and Forsling because the youngster has higher upside IMO and Benn is probably not going to resign.

It would have to be agreed upon in principal that Pacioretty will resign with the Hawks, not be a condition. If so then Yeah Im good with it. If he won't commit to resigning I don't think this is the best move for the Habs.
