Deadline Deals (If Hawks are out of the playoff race)

Created by: DrumMan44
Team: 2018-19 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 17, 2018
Published: Jul. 17, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wheel and deal to trade for draft picks.

Take on Spezza as a cap dump in the Ward trade. Speeza, Kruger, and Kunitz walk to free up a healthy amount of cap space for Schmaltz and Debrincat's future deals.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. 2019 4th round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Manning, Brandon ($1,125,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Try to get somebody to take Manning. Was a poor signing from the get-go. Retain if necessary.
2.
CHI
  1. 2019 2nd round pick (CAR)
CAR
  1. Anisimov, Artem
Additional Details:
Time to move on, old friend. As much as it pains me.
3.
CHI
  1. Spezza, Jason
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (DAL)
  3. 2019 4th round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Ward, Cam ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Depending how the season shakes out, I could see Dallas making a run.

Assuming Ward performs adequately he could be a good insurance pickup for Dallas. They send Spezza back the other way as a cap dump.
4.
CHI
  1. 2019 2nd round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
Continuing the proud tradition of trading a Blackhawks defenseman to the eventual Stanley Cup Champions.

This is a conditional pick then ends up as a 2nd rounder if the Leafs advance to the conference finals.

I don’t think cam would waive his NMC. Like I think he’s just content staying here. Not that he wouldn’t go to DAL but I think he’d just rather not be bothered by leaving

But maybe. Depends how much he wants to win a cup again. My initial reaction is he just don’t want to move.

You can't say manning was a poor signing from the get go when he hasn't even played a game with us yet... have a little faith Hawks fans!

Poor signing in that:

1) It's a multi-year deal
2) pushes LHD down in the depth chart when they need to be developing.

I mean, sure, he could play like the second coming of Nik Lidstrom, but I think he'll be at best a 6/7 guy on this team.
