It's an interesting and exciting idea for the Avs, but I think Ottawa wants a lot more for a signed (or negotiated-with) Karlsson. Getting their 1st back would obviously be huge, but I don't know if Zadorov and Wilson would be enough of a kicker in the deal. If so EK would probably already be out of Ottawa.

And they rid themselves of Bobby Ryan.

Personally, I would not touch a 7 year contract with Karlsson with a 40 foot pole. His injury history is concerning. Whoever pays him is going to regret it within three years.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of giving guys that much money into their mid-thirties either. I hope for Karlsson's sake (and the team that trades for him), he'll remain effective until that age.

I would do whatever I could to take Zadorov out of that trade, he just brings something tot he avs blue line that no other Dman has to offer, too valuable to balance out those Pairings. A Karlsson Zadorov pairing would be scary good.

Swap Girard for Zadorov in the trade?

thats even worse. Sens are in no position to bargain with the Avs to get their own 1st round pick and take one of their Young promising LHS Dmen or RHS D Prospects.

Agreed. I'd prefer to send Barrie the other way if I'm making this trade. EK & Zads, EJ & Girard, Cole and one of Timmins (if fit from concussion and pushing for a place), Nemeth & Barberio with the remaining pair for depth wouldn't look too shabby. It would also give the Avs a little more cap wiggle room. Makar coming through for a fourth pair with Nemeth in the future = pretty deep!

I agree, and Sens think they can get a good young NHL dman and their 1st round pick back while taking on the Ryan contract is just fantasy land. Avs have all the control when it comes to trade talks with them. If they dont like it they are more than happy with the current D core which is pretty solid.

Just let the sens keep on self destructing and hold onto that 1st round pick for a shot at Jack Hughes

That return doesn't even get you his hair flow.

then be prepared to hand over Jack Hughes to the avs. As soon as you involve the sens 1st round pick and the bobby Ryan contract you are taking pennies back on the dollar and thats just the reality of the situation the sens put themselves in

Aha. I love how far apart you guys are on evaluations. I thought including either Zadorov or Girard was quite generous to sens.

Right, if teams were willing to hand over their young Dmen then Karlsson would have been traded to the Stars or Lightning right now. You might think its generous but thats not how the NHL trade market is goign to work out for the Sens.

Avs dont need trade for Karlsson...but sens will have to trade him to ensure they are able to get a return for him before he hits UFA. The Avs have something the Sens want that no other team can offer them. Their now first round pick back after they are entering a rebuild. Avs have a value on that pick, and if they Sens dont like it, they are more than happy keeping that pick and getting another cheery on top of the cherries they got for Duchene.

Avs are not tearing down what they have built just to help the Sens out, they still are in a world of pain yet before they are away from this nightmare of an offseason

No it's not. Karlsson is the BEST defenseman in the world. And for all of you guaranteeing that our pick will be Hughes...even if we finish last there is only an 18% chance of us getting him.
