Trades
COL
  1. Karlsson, Erik
  2. Ryan, Bobby ($1,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
They would retain salary so it would be 5.5 milion as his actual salary is. Avalanche organization will pay all the salary and bonuses and Ottawa would have just cap space and they would save same money as if they traded his whole deal but they would get more in return..
OTT
  1. Barrie, Tyson

This is a deal Ottawa should be begging for. I think it's fair value for Karlsson and also makes up for a crazy amount given up in the Duchene deal, while also gettign the majority of Bobby Ryan's contract off the books. Where do the Sens sign up?!

And they would also save same money and get more back.. I hope I can call both Sakic and Dorion!

no way keep that senators pick. when you get jack hughes with is you'll be screaming for joy. McKinnon and hughes and your set up for 10 years of the best 1 ,2 punch in the conference.

Problem is even if Ottawa finishes dead last they aren't that likely of winning the lottery. Ask Arizona or whomever, Buffalo until this year. Yes - the value of Hughes exceeds the value of EK, but it's very unlikely, and from the Avs standpoint they should just go for a cup imo

if you can get karlsson name on an extension then I get it and go ahead. he is better than barrie by a bunch. karlsson scares me a little. he is all flash and a bit below average in his own zone and not the biggest guy in the world. he tends to get injured. hes a stud but when he declines hes going to fall off a cliff.

Terrible for Avs, Next year Barrie gone, that top 3 pick gone, Ryan a waste at 7.25m. And EK signed elsewhere as UFA. Even this year, EK addition isn't going to help the Avs to a Conference Final

He's better than basically everyone by a bunch. His team is below average in their own zone, and EK defends the neutral zone as good as anyone. What's funny about it is that everyone's scared his foot might be a bit bad long term, but everyone saw him play on basically the highest level a d-man has played since Lidström on one foot. So even if it doesn't heal well he has still shown he can be an impact player in that state. He relies on his speed sure, but plenty of defensemen have gradually started relying less on speed and more on smarts in their 30's. Don't see why he wouldn't be able to do that

Yep. And also if they resign him for 7yrs that deal would be exactly fitted into his prime years. He is going to be elite until his late 30s.

I think it's bold to say he will be, and I do think he's exiting his prime, but he has been the best defenseman in this league for like 5 seasons. I think people will realize the huge gap between him and Doughty when Doughty struggles like 3 years into his new contract, while Karlsson looks glorious for the first 5 or so

lidstrom isn't the comparison id make since karlsson isn't close to how good nick was in his own zone. his offense is better but he isn't the complete package lidstom was. still I get your point. hes a stud getting him isn't wrong.
