If Point replicates the year he just had there's no chance he's signing for just 5 million. He'll want what Marner or Nylander gets because he is that good.

Still - I think Yzerman will want to lock him up for more than 5 years, and the cap will go up marginally to probably 81-82 million. Even with the lack of state tax I don't think Point's camp is taking less than 6-6.5 million AAV.

Five stars.
As much as I like Nelson, if Yzerman would make this trade Nelson, C + 2020 5th + 2020 6th for Callahan, R. + Killorn, A. I would jump on it. Callahan would be great to change the locker room and Killorn would bolster our LW.
TBH, I think Yzerman would want more.

Most of it looks good, except for the Point part. Most likely scenario is that he signs a bridge deal at 2 or 3 years around $5m AAV and then gets a long term deal loaded w/ money. No way he signs at $5m AAV for anymore than 3 years in my opinion.

The Gourde deal is ok, but if he has another good season I think he'll get paid a little more than $4m AAV. Probably around $4.5m AAV.

I would love to have Boyle back, the price seems good.

But another issue is on defense. The Top 4 is crazy good, but the third pairing isn't. I don't see a pairing of Koekkoek + Dotchin and also think that only one of them will be in the Top 6. But Cal Foote could (and should) be on his way up to the NHL in the next couple years. The problem is the depth beyond the Top 4.

Lastly, the cap situation. What happens the next year? Vasilevskiy and Sergachev will need big raises, so I just don't see how TB could stay under the cap w/ out trading a big salary or signing Karlsson for a little less.

Even if it's just three yrs with point that's fine. The defense has to get younger, yzerman has to stop signing these washed up defenders as band aids and let the kids play, if nothing else then at least the cap relief. I do agree that a contract needs to still be moved, i think it could def be johnson's and let point run that line. As long as it's not palat's , i would be happy (he's the most underrated player on team IMO)

Many said the same things about Tyler Johnson and Kucherov. We got them both to take a bridge deal. I think SY does it again here if we get Karlsson on a contract extension.
