What's this sudden tightness in my pants I feel?

Cue Ottawa fans saying they need more in 3, 2, 1....

A 1st round pick, 1st round draft prospect, and two solid role players to help as they rebuild....I think that's pretty darn good for a 1 year rental.

I'm not even a Hawks fan and I think it's an over payment

Trying to appease all the haters. I agree, it's a lot. You can remove AA or the 1st round pick and it's pretty solid deal.

I actually think the Duchene deal is pretty decent value, but Carolina will want back more for Faulk.

I'd just wait until the offseason. Maybe give them a little something for his negotiation rights if you want to sign him to that full 8 years??? I'm not down with any 1 year rental for 1st rounders. I hope we done trading away 1st rounders for a long time.

He's a UFA so OTT doesn't own negotiating rights which is why the only thing they can in theory trade is a 1 year rental. For sure, part of the deal is Hawks signing him for 6 or 7 years and likely $7M or 5 years and $8M.

Which is why Faulk hasn't been moved yet, but the reality is, that's more then fair value for Faulk. A young backup goalie with a better save % in the NHL then Darling and a 1st and 4th? That's more then fair.

It's not a bad return, but there's a real premium on RHD that can put up points. Faulk has shown he can be a top pairing guy and has two years left on a reasonable cap hit. I'm betting the Canes get better value back IRL.

I feel like that’s too much of a package for a one year rental. I know Stans deals haven’t been very thorough lately but I can’t see the hawks moving 2 first rounders, Murphy, and Anisimov. Those pieces combined could get much more. It’s too risky for a one year rental IMO.

Teams trading for soon to be UFAs happen somewhat frequently. You can trade for the right prior to then and sign up to the full 8 if that's the direction they want to go. Sabres gave up a 3rd rounder for Jimmy Vesey's right on June 20th 2016...he then dumped them to play for NYR so it's clearly a risk that needs to be weighed, but at least with trading for Duchene's rights...you can offer something no other team can.

Value is fine if anything the hawks are overpaying... but I don't like the idea of trading our next 2 1st rounders considering we are a rebuilding/retooling team.

Wait I missed the part about Beaudin... I don't want to trade him!

My point was more that Sens fans know he's their #1 center, and they've so far been expecting something of equal value in return.

Also, minor additional note, but I would keep Schmaltz as the 2C to attempt to improve on his centerman game, Dutch can play LW and sub in for the important draws when he needs to. Put the Cat with 19&20.

Agreed with this but assumed there was a missing "agrees to an extension that isn't complete cap destruction" attached to the deal.

Even with an extension I'm hesitant. Murphy and Anisimov are both worth 2nds. Two firsts and two seconds for duchene? Man.....

Agreed, it's definitely an overpay, but if you have a target like Dutch, and you really want him, you have to overpay to make it happen. He was who I was screaming for the last two years or so, so maybe I'm an easier sell than I should be. However, I was screaming for Duclair and look how that turned out...

I agree with you I thought he would be a nice add as well, the hawks could use an influx of speed (As they trade Hinostrozashakes head ) and Duchene has that as well as a solid 200 foot game.

It is but for getting an extension out of Duchene, it's a good deal for both.

I didn't know that it says 1 year rental so I figured he walks after.

It's not a rental, Chicago signs an extension for Duchene. In the deal it says 1 year rental as in that's the only value OTT has to negotiate with Chicago, they don't own anything more then 1 year.

No, I put in that to represent that's all that OTT has of value to offer Chicago. What Duchene and Chicago agree to regarding an extension is not a piece of value OTT owns.
