Makes no sense. Habs are not in position to compete this year. So why are they taking on Ryan and giving up youth + a pick? They would be better to avoid this and finish lower than 'push' for playoff spot.

Hahaha good one! Almost as good as your grammar. What a team tells the media/fans and what they actually do are separate paths. I think you don't understand hockey; tanking if you're not good enough is the new norm. Go take a look at what STL did last season as an example.

i agree the players might think that way but players don't make management/future decisions for the team. Patch is going to be gone before the season or in a worst case scenario the deadline so we don't lose him for nothing, Hudon has potential and Ryan has nothing. The only way Ryan should come here is with picks as a cap dump from Ottawa that might help them and another team get a trade for Karlsson done. We will be looking at the standings from the bottom so there will be no need for a push for the playoffs. I think GOLDENDELICIOS has a good understanding of this.

That is the mentality that gets you finishing 7-9th every year. Ask NYR why they traded MCDonagh, Miller, Stepan the past couple years for picks and prospects? Not to make the playoffs the next year. How about STL trading Stastny at last years TDL?

Teams say they are trying to make the playoffs all the time because they have to but in reality they purposefully sabotage their team in order to assure they finish at the bottom of the rankings in order to get a top end talent in the draft which will lead them to multiple playoff births in the future. Sacrifice 1-2 years in order to be a good team for the following 10 years afterwards.

Edit: This is also a bad trade. Hudon had more points as a rookie than Ryan did last year and is way cheaper. Maybe you should ask yourself if you know how hockey works before blasting others.

Even with Ryan this team is still a bottom feeder and will not make the playoffs, I don;'t think he makes them better. Managers don't throw away futures to barely make the playoffs especially at the deadline we will be looking at being bottom three in the league anyway. We are sellers don't kid yourself, we are not bobby ryan away from the playoffs lol

Ther last time the Habs missed the playoffs before winning the cup in 1993 was 1969!. That team was a much much better team than this one. And even then, that team won a league record 10 consecutive overtime games.

I'm a Habs fan too but this logic makes no sense and is the reason why the Habs were so bad during a major chunk of the past 30 years.
